so world leaders loaded with nuclear weapons shouldn't talk? just because clinton lost, we have to listen to this stuff every day.

Best case scenario: President Trump is so narcissistic and tone-deaf that he is unwilling or unable (or unaware how) to avoid even the appearance of potentially treasonous levels of corruption.

Less-than-best case scenario: It's not just appearances.

so world leaders loaded with nuclear weapons shouldn't talk?

No, but world leaders under investigation for collusion and corruption should probably keep official witnesses handy when they do talk.

just because clinton lost, we have to listen to this stuff every day.

If you think this is just because Clinton lost, you aren't paying attention.

All things considered,

did they think that the meeting would remain undisclosed?

that the present climate was not conducive such a meeting?

that the meeting would have a witness on Putin's side who also was the only translator and none on Trump's side?

that people who voted for Trump to represent them were represented by him in a meeting with Putin?

would Trump ever meet with another party for legal or business disclosure regarding one of his own enterprises without a witness or some professional back up? (Would you?)

would Trump tolerate one of his underlings including family to meet with Putin or one of his underlings in similar circumstances? (Well, the answer to this one may be referenced to precedents set by the Flynns and Jareds and Donny Jrs in his world)

Come on United States of America citizenry, you can do better than you are doing about your leader. Please remember if you voted for him or not or just didn't vote, he represents you. That is how it looks to everybody else in the world, and only you can do something about it.

Oh ok the conversation it isnt sinister or nefarious or treasonous anymore, it now just 'defies the norms'. I can live with that and move on to something of actual importance. All done here.

Oh ok the conversation it isnt sinister or nefarious or treasonous anymore, it now just 'defies the norms'. I can live with that and move on to something of actual importance. All done here.

It isn't sinister, nefarious or treasonous? How would you know? How would anyone know?

We could ask the Russians. I certainly don't trust Trump to tell the truth. He has a big problem with the truth.

It doesn't just defy the norms. It is another day in stupidville. That is becoming the new norm.

Plenty of lies coming out of Trump on this meeting too, a norm for Trump. He can't do anything without lying. . . It was an hour long meeting, not a brief meeting. Trump left mid-dinner, not during dessert.

Overall, just stupid, but that is what to expect from Trump. Follow that up with news released that weekend and during the week of Don Jr. attempting to collude with Russians.

Definitely another brick in the stupidity wall and maybe another treasonous act.

Blacklabel: This is a chat between high level people. They didn't talk about golf. Well, we don't know actually. Only 3 people know. DT, Putin and the translator.

Still, DT is accountable and the chat should have been reported.

Goodlucktoyou: thank you for bringing red herrings to the party.

Oh ok the conversation it isnt sinister or nefarious or treasonous anymore, it now just 'defies the norms'.

You are the only one bringing the words negrrious, treasonous, and sinister to the conversation. Why are you doing that? It only serves to inflame passions.

Been married for 24 years now. I have many female friends, some of whom my wife trusts and likes, and some of whom for various reasons she does not. I have no second thoughts about how to treat the former; the latter, I have to take care with. I suspect many married men are the same.

We'll likely never know the contents of that conversation (though Putin's circle will). For Trump to conduct a lengthy conversation with Putin without an American counterpart to monitor was extremely ill-advised. Just ask my wife.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Been married for 24 years now.

Congratulations. Great analogy that will undoubtedly fly right over some people's heads.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

We could ask the Russians. I certainly don't trust Trump to tell the truth. He has a big problem with the truth.

Trump can often embellish a story we all know this, but let's remember, he's being over viciously attacked by the left and the media and at the same times does the opposite to them and the truth can get muddled in the mix, but overall, I don't think that the man is as deceiving as his haters try to make him out to be.

It doesn't just defy the norms. It is another day in stupidville. That is becoming the new norm.

As well as the media sinking to the depths of snarky low level smear tactics, that is also the new norm we have to live with. A giant Enquirer is what the media has morphed into.

Plenty of lies coming out of Trump on this meeting too, a norm for Trump. He can't do anything without lying. . . It was an hour long meeting, not a brief meeting. Trump left mid-dinner, not during dessert.

But you can't prove he lied, none of us and I think this story is yet another Easter egg hunt in the tradition of desperation by the left to find something that can stick to Trump.

Overall, just stupid, but that is what to expect from Trump. Follow that up with news released that weekend and during the week of Don Jr. attempting to collude with Russians.

Attempting is different from willfully, purposely or maliciously colluding with the Russians with intent. Doesn't matter, Don Jr. is not a White House staff. May have been foolish what he did, I get it, but DTJ is not the real problem in that situation. How is it that this woman could get entry on a blocked visa and why would the previous administration override it and allow her into the country? That's what we should be asking.

Definitely another brick in the stupidity wall and maybe another treasonous act.

Dumb, perhaps....treasonous? LOL Now Snowden on the other hand...

The resident journalist trying his hardest to justify another instance of Trump's incompetence.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Bass4funk: you never fail to deliver!

viciously attacked

Are you talking about DT that went after Obama over birth certificate for months via the media he despises so much but served him so well for example?

Often appearing on Fox trying so hard to congratulate himself?

Or by media you don't include Fox News, Breitbart, Alex Jones and all right leaning media?

IMPROMPTU CHATS DO HAPPEN

They sure do, nothing wrong with that when the said 'chat' is between 2 strong allies, 2 leaders who do get along exceptionally well, speak the same language etc.

Risky & not-so-wise move when the 2 protagonists have a long history of disputes, he said/she said issues, do not speak each other's language etc.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Are you talking about DT that went after Obama over birth certificate for months via the media he despises so much but served him so well for example?

I think you meant Trump going after Obama for years.

If Trump had any clue what he was doing, he would have at least had a note taker. The article lays out how a competent administration acts:

In the Obama administration, the official said, aides ensured Obama was never alone with leaders of powerful, adversarial nations like China and Russia.

Of course, a journalist knows that a president embroiled in controversy related to a government should have time alone with the head of that government.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Not many people trust Trump when it comes to Russia. Too many lies by his staff and too much praise from Trump. His only support comes from diehard fans who have always defended his mistakes.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

It really doesn't matter what Trump does, the media will ALWAYS find a way to complain about it

... and so will most JT posters.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

It really doesn't matter what Trump does, the media will ALWAYS find a way to complain about it

No, it matters. If he didn't do so much stupid stuff, we wouldn't have so much stupid stuff to criticize him for.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

It really doesn't matter what Trump does, the media will ALWAYS find a way to complain about it

Did you even bother to read the article? There were no complaints about Trump, just highlighting of facts regarding how he and his administration do not follow established norms and how that causes more trouble for him.

The two big issues with Trump are: (1) he is convinced he is extremely intelligent, and (2) he is easily flattered. These combine to create situations in which he is easily manipulated.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

@Raw Beer

You nailed it!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Its actually shocking how completely desperate the liberal media are to smear Trump.

He had dessert with Putin.

Its gonna be an interesting 8 years to say the least.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Trump and his staff are under investigation for collusion with Russia. Surely he should know how something like this would look, even if they just talked about the weather. Or maybe he genuinely just doesn't get it. It's hard to tell with Trump.

As for the media coverage, you guys wanted an outsider. Just because you love the guy and can forgive any mistakes he makes doesn't mean the rest of us have to. When he screws up because he doesn't understand (sometimes) or just doesn't care (sometimes), it's going to be reported on. Enough with the, "We wanted an outsider but let's constantly whine about all the baggage that goes along with it" position.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Partisan hacks? Would they be people who compared Bernie Sanders to Josef Stalin while blowing up at comparisons of Trump to Hitler, wrote liberals are completely devoid of morals and wrote that there are non-partisan historians who claim the Bush years were a success? Oh, and that Obama may be a Muslim?

If you'll call it out on both sides, I'm with you on this.

The problem with that analogy is that Trump didn't kill millions of people and No one misses the butcher of Baghdad. As for the rest, if liberals can make a civilized comeback, start winning elections, maybe people can take them a bit more seriously.

Does "the media" include Fox and Friends? Or other children's shows?

Maybe TheView or Morning Joe.

Love your use of ALL CAPS. It's an effective rhetorical tool. Where'd you learn it?

From my smart liberal friends, they know everything. Kudos.

But on a serious note, this is another blurb and a bunch of whiny media loons that just can't stomach the fact that they missed getting any dibs on Trump and Putin's conversion. In other words, if they have to guess what could have possibly take place or what was said, it must mean, they were up to something underhandedly nefarious. These guys used to annoy me, but now I kinda get a chuckle everyday.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

@Bass

I was just pointing out that let he who casts the first ObamamaybeamuslimLMAO be free of partisanship.

You hate hypocrisy as much as I do.

Whatever wrongdoings the past administration did need to be brought to light.

That also goes for the administration which preceded the last. The WMD lies were a disgrace. You, despite being a non-partisan oppose any trial for a man non-existent, non-partisan historians regard as a success.

When using the word 'partisan', remember it is negative from both sides.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@Laguna

"the latter, I have to take care with...Just ask my wife."

Does she fear the latter may be putin' out?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Apparently Democrats believe that Trump told the Russians that he will have more flexibility after his reelection. Which of course was cool when Obama was president.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I think there will be a separate in depth story that will analyze the "suspicious" and possibly "sinister" hand gestures between them two.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It was cool when Obama was President. That's how leaders talk. Read about Nixon and Mao meeting and the moves they had to plan out because of our democracy. The Chinese took great pleasure in it. But I'll set your attempt at false equivalency aside for now.

I just don't see why anyone would want to extend any kind of trust to Trump when it comes to Russia. Why would they? He's lost 2 people on his staff because they lied about Russia. Trump Jr. lied about Russia. Several times. Sessions lied and had to recuse himself. Kushner lied. The Senate, House, and FBI are investigating Trump over Russia. There's a special council investigating him. Trump fired the head of the FBI and said it was because of Russia.

He's taken the complete opposite reaction on Russia than literally everyone else in government. Want to see a rare time when Democrats and Republicans work together in this day and age? They're doing it to oversee Trump's actions on Russia. They intentionally restricted his ability to ease the most recent sanctions because they do not trust him.

And the media had nothing to do with it.

Why would any person with an ounce of logical ability say that they'd give Trump the benefit of the doubt? The guy and his crew are straight up shady. I mean he defrauded Americans out of their hard earned money for his fake university. Literally. All to make more cash.

Why would I be OK with him talking alone with Vladmir Putin? Makes no sense at all.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Why would I be OK with him talking alone with Vladmir Putin? Makes no sense at all.

Why would anyone be okay with Trump talking alone with Putin? It doesn't make any sense at all, but the people that are okay with it clearly have no sense at all. One merely needs to read a handful of their posts to see this.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The subject matter is blatantly pathetic and unbelievably a complete waste of resources and airtime !

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Just 'dessert'? Second Japan Today story about the Trump-Putin chat defies the MSM.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Why a second meeting? What was said?

With all the suspicion over the lying duplicitous PotUS and his Russian ties, why would he do this?

Or was he just reporting in to his handler?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Super: Why would any person with an ounce of logical ability say that they'd give Trump the benefit of the doubt?

You ask to much my friend. Independent Republican-burgerism at it's most insane.

It's a cult. And screaming orange grandpa is the deceitful grand master.

Trump's lawyers are currently looking in to the presidents power of pardon in relation to his own Whitehouse staff, and of course the Trump /Kushner crime families.

Somethings gotta give, and soon.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

It just gets better (or worse?) as Trump is reportedly looking into how to pardon himself and his family...
