Sunak and Badenoch are British. You are often very…erm…preoccupied with race. Seems to be a theme with you.

Labour rubbing their hands. Nowhere near good enough as a leader

Down the identity politics rabbit hole they go.

Reason #1 why the UK has become a disaster.

Very sad. Visited once in the late 90's and it seemed pretty nice.

Badenoch was born in Wimbledon. She is English.

Sunak was born in Southampton. He is English.

Perhaps you don't know the UK well? There are British-born people of every colour and race there. Black people - shock, horror - can be British.

Hysterical.

Badenoch likes to play the idiotic culture wars crap. You’d like it.

Doesn’t wash with the electorate as a whole. Grown-ups and all that.

Kemi talks a good game, but I think a lot of conservatives like me have given up on the Conservative Party ever delivering anything remotely conservative. This is the party that gave us same-sex marriage (even though it wasn't in their manifesto), presided over the appalling rise of wokery, doing nothing to rein it in, and opposed Brexit -- then refusing to grasp any of the opportunities it provided. It also devastated the British economy by locking it down severely and disastrously paying people to sit at home and do nothing, not to mention pushing unnecessary vaccines on healthy people.

I also wasn't impressed by Kemi's criticisms of Reform UK. If she wants to win back Reform voters, she's going to have to try a lot harder.

Totally! Mrs Thatcher will be turning in her grave at the state of the Tory party now. Atleast she had NO time for fools. sadly! the Tories have had two. Boris and now one! I won't just call out her culture wars but also her racist culture cr@p. Blaming immigrants, blaming foreigners, blaming the E.U for failed Tory policies. Austerity! but they have a simple answer: Blame the boats, Blame the immigrants, Blame the EU. But never a tory. Yes, even black people can be racist and xenophobic. Her language wouldn't be too dissimilar to some of the rhetoric Enoch Powel would have said back in 1968. She will move the party into Trump/Farage language, and there really won't be much daylight between the One Nation Tories and Reform UK.

Brexit is an absolute disaster. No serous person sees it as a success now.

Best summed up in the curious case of Nigel Farage. A rightwing heckler who spent his time telling us how incompetent the leaders of the Tories and Labour are.

Brexit probably couldn’t have been made a success even when navigated by the most skilled and canny leaders.

The incompetence Farage described ended with…

(I don't blame you. Its so much easier to live in Japan where you don't have to live with the consequences of your voting)

Yep.

The uninformed types having incontinent hysterics over a black woman in charge would actually probably like what she says if they actually knew anything about her.

excellent retort. I hadn't thought of it that way..

Keir Starmer said: “Congratulations, Kemi Badenoch, on becoming the Conservative Party’s new leader. The first Black leader of a Westminster party is a proud moment for our country.

“I look forward to working with you and your party in the interests of the British people.”

Whatever my opinion/thoughts on Starmer at present, that is generous statesmanly

we do need a bit more nuance. She was indeed born in Wimbledon. But she lived in Nigeria and the USA, returning to the UK at 16. Born in a country does not necessarily mean that person IS that nationality. Being born in Japan (as we live here) doesn’t make anyone Japanese. And neither does the UK.She only returned to the UK due to political instability in Nigeria. She wasn’t raised there. Personally not into the ENGLISH thing. British might be more inline with the position she holds. We don’t have an English PM, they’re a British PM. Slight nuance that might ruffle a few welsh, Irish and Scots.

I find her an interesting person. I probably sit on the opposite side of her political views, but I don't think she's an idiot - far from it. She has a Masters degree in Engineering, somewhat unusual for politicians.

She has described herself as "to all intents and purposes a first-generation immigrant" - I guess due to spending most of her early life outside the UK.

I'm hoping she will cause the other parties to wake up. We will see.

Nadia Whittome MP

@NadiaWhittomeMP

As Equalities Minister, Badenoch attacked trans people and failed to ban conversion therapy.

She's called maternity pay excessive and her campaign leaflets argue that autistic people get “economic privileges”.

Her election shows that the Tories only care about culture wars.

Nadia Whittome MP, could exhibit political professionalism, positively extending Badenoch congratulations for the new challenges and responsibilities ahead

The new leader of an opposition with a depleted (121 seats) in a parliament so ideologically divided.

Churchill was a racist too.

Flipping heck Tucker! She’s pretty far right of Sunak, make no mistake.

Probably better than Starmer though, well who wouldn’t be, he’s a power hungry nutter.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

All so predictable. Another clown that can't help putting her foot in her gob to lead the Tories. Badenoch is bad for Britain. Period.

The tories did not give the U.K gay marriage. It gave parliament a “free vote” and they were free to vote with their conscience.. As for Brexit, please do tell us what opportunities there are/We’re? When most of the trade was with the E.U? Blame everything on anything but the facts! You thought we’d take back control. Well, you did! If you want to sell paint to California, you gotta follow Californian laws. You wanna sell stuff to India , you gotta follow Indian laws. But you can’t tell a British company to make one thing for the US to comply with US laws, then make the same product at a lower level for the U.K. double the production costs. You thoughts we’d control our waters. Well we do! But you can’t go over to French waters and fish there, or sell your fish in Europe because you gotta follow European laws.( but we took back control) but we still gotta follow their laws. But also they have to follow British laws too. Like, passport checks, vet checks, but all fair and reciprocal.

as for Covid, most countries went through that, and it was to stop the NHS I.c.u, being over run. We had the Flu, and Covid and the NHS had very little free capacity. Have you forgotten what happened to the dead bodies in Italy, Spain and New York.? Ice rinks used as morgues. And it wasn’t locked down just for YOU! It was also to protect the NHS and those who were at risk.

pleas put the peddling of vaccines back in the conspiracy box. You live in a world that has the tech to make that stuff. You’ve never met anyone who’s died of polio, influenza, cervical cancer, have you met anyone who died or was disabled because of measles, rubella? No! You haven’t. Met anyone disabled with polio? Met anyone with whooping cough? No! You live in a time where non of these things are around you.for you, you accept the immunity and protection given to you by everyone who takes the vaccine and you have the privilege to say “the vaccine was unnecessary”.

As for winning more reform votes, I guess that means more anti foreign rubbish, blame the boats, and more culture wars.

Quite correct. I’ve washed my hands of this so-called “conservative” party. I don’t know what they have become now but it is nothing I would remotely ever vote for again.
