Wow, you think democracy is not a fine idea for the U.S.? Have you republicans really reached that point? I suppose it's the war on democracy.

A call for democracy from the US usually means open the doors for US business. My hope is that Cuban people who are able and willing to apply their skills and effort, not just those already in positions of power and politically connected, will be able to prosper and not be forced to exist in the precariat class. I also hope their health care and educational systems will not be dismantled.

Its about time! Great job Obama.

Most regular Cubans welcome that Cuba and the US are no longer enemies. They know that their lives can get better. They already lived thru 5 decades where their lives can't get much worse.
Unless ya had to live through what they had to live through, be happy for the Cubans.

"In New York, Republican presidential contender Marco Rubio, a Cuban-American senator from Florida, said he would reverse the Obama administration’s new Cuba policy "
Speaking of people living in the past...Rubio cant see past his nose like typical right-way conservative American

No more jubilant after the republicans seize the white house. So take your time to have fun.
CrazyJoe
Gutless Republicans remain in their fetal position petrified of commies.
SuperLib
That's just awesome.
Now I could say the usual, "surely he knows the U.S. has relationships with governments who have done as much or worse," but would that accomplish much? Rubio is a smart man. He already knows this. His plan is to just pretend it doesn't exist.

@Paradox"They destroy the nations and create the terrorist states around the world".

Obama bring the republicans into 2015 again when they want to stay in 1955.
This is a non-issue now. Get over it wingers. Yet another "loss" for you all.
camnai
Democracy would be a fine idea for the U.S. as well.

I doubt it. There are no crazy muslims in Cuba. Just nice sandy beaches waiting for foreign investment.

"It seemed that virtually all of Cuba was glued to television or listening by cellphone as Kerry directly addressed the island’s people on political reform."
I'll bet.

@bass4funk You want to put money on that? Who in Republicans can even spell their name, let alone run a country?
paradox
Last country in the world that has right to talk democracy is USA, They destroy the nations and create the terrorist states around the world. I feel sorry for Cuba, they will be next Libya or Iraq where law and order gets replaced by anarchy and murder.
bass4funk
Obama bring the republicans into 2015 again when they want to stay in 1955.
Has nothing to do with anything and everything to do with REWARDING the Castro brothers. And now we totally know over the last 7 years, Obama is NOW known as the president that likes to take everything up his...
Yea, but in 450 more days, it will be a win for the GOP, the country and the rest of the world on the day he is finally out of our lives.
bass4funk
Obama couldn't even spell Marine Corps. He said "corpse" and Obama ran the country in the ground and he had despite his college education. So much for that theory.
darnname
Is that a call for democracy in the US? I'm confused...
chubbychub
US as usual poking it NOSE where it is no wanted, will they ever learn?
bass4funk
Last country in the world that has right to talk democracy is USA,
Really?
Japan seems fine, so does Japan, South Korea is doing good and then there's Mexico and now, I guess Cuba, so what's the problem?
Once the Castro brothers are gone, we can all be happy for Cuba and the Cuban people, even more so.
bass4funk
As long as Obama's in office, I doubt it.
bass4funk
No, we just haven't seen it over the last 7 years, but in another 451 days, we will.
