Kim san, let's fire one at us, here on the west coast.

There shouldn't be a need for any Asian country to feel the need to contain threats from a nation on the other side of the globe.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

If we ever considered them a real threat we can destroy every one of their launch sites and eliminate their threat potential. Why is being able to attack a country on the other side of the planet more important than feeding the people?

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Oh yeah? Well those SSBNs loaded with IICBMs right off your coast will have your shorts on fire very quickly.

Because it seems Kim wants the US to acknowledge that NK is now an "official" member of the nuclear weapons club and deserves to be seen as an equal. He doesn't give squat about his people, as they are brainwashed into believing that anything he does or says is beyond reproach.

He wants to be able to "threaten" the US with a nuclear attack and knows that the US wont attack him, unless he takes the first shot.

SM-3 is the counter for NKs ICBMs. https://youtu.be/0aKNJh0G47k Paris Air show 2017 SM-3 and SM-6 sales guy.

In the aerospace world, Jane's is THE source for information. Without confirming anything, they get it right far too often.

A direct threat from North Korea. OK...

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Recognize the DPRK (North Korea) now! Sign a peace treaty with the DPRK now!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

They have been recognised- as a rogue state!

Most kids enjoy watching fireworks displays, apparently in NK kids love watching missile launches. If they have a mishap and land on foreign territory, will Little Kimmy take his daughter to view the incoming?

the test of a newly developed intercontinental ballistic missile confirmed that his country has another "reliable and maximum-capacity" weapon to contain outside threats, as he warned the United States and its allies that their alleged provocative steps would lead to "their self-destruction," state media reported Saturday.

BS. The few nuclear ICBM's NK could launch would be stopped before hitting the US and the US response would mean the end of the NK regime permanently. Assuming one or two manage to get through it would be damaging but would not end the US by any means.

Nobody has threatened to nuke NK, so its diatribe is nonsensical. Nobody is interested in a war with NK, only of defending from a NK attack.

The DPRK is recognized, recognized as being North Korea.

I agree a peace treaty needs to be signed, but am also sure it will not alter the rubbish and threat NK continues to dole out regularly.

Kim wants the US to acknowledge that NK is now an "official" member of the nuclear weapons club and deserves to be seen as an equal.

NK will be under crippling sanctions weather recognized as a Nuclear nation or not, and it will never be considered an equal. The NK nation is psycho town central, the US is just a little bit silly.

Very well. Try that, then.

Unfortunately, this not precise.

What is the basis of your confidence?

He has prove nothing until he can develop an nuclear implosion lens,to detonate a warhead over the US ,the US will flatten him, before he waddle out of bed ,why you people worry about his unproven theory Google North Korea Nuclear Implosion Lens

They don't want to.

" North Korea on Friday rejected South Korea’s calls to officially declare an end to the 1950-53 Korean War—for which a peace treaty was never signed—"

Nobody can figure out what reasonable things NK leaders actually want. That's the problem with crazy egomaniacs.

They can't have SK.

They can't spread their dictatorship.

Nobody will respect them when they act crazy.

@OssanAmerica

Thank you for citing the Forbes article. But there is a need to provide the full picture. The article also says as follows:

"In a statement published in North Korean state media, the country’s Vice Foreign Minister Ri Thae Song dismissed Moon’s statement as premature so long as U.S. policies in the region remained unchanged."

I can't be specific but I have seen stuff I was hands on with thoroughly misrepresented in Janes and other supposedly authoritative sources.

Become a regular reader of 38 North and you will see your statement is in error.

The western press paints a cartoon picture of DPRK. There are, however, people who look, listen and take the time to understand that country and its leaders. They are more rationale in many ways than you would ever guess from reading the popular press.

Here is a good example of what I am talking about.

China and Russia(as usual) are lurking in North Korea’s ugly background and supporting this chaos. Let’s never forget this.

North Korea has made it crystal clear what they want.

"reasonable things". Things like getting along with their neighbors as a start.

http://kcna.kp/en/article/q/8e8553c27d32935aae123fecf0dbaaf8.kcmsf has what they want. In short, NK wants

All US troops and weapons removed from SK BEFORE NK removes any of their Nukes. Of course, they want all of this verified.

I didn't see any mention of all Russian and Chinese military people removed from NK in the offer. The preconditions for peace meetings are unreasonable. NK wasted huge amounts of money believing that nuclear weapons would force the US+SK to come to the peace table. That isn't how peace works. The US has a "fool me once" stance with China, Russia, Iran, NK, Venezuela, Cuba with no intention of being fooled again.

Anyone remember how the Korean War started?

Summary: Calls for the people of Korea to decide the type of govt they wanted was rebuffed by the North a few years before the Korean War became hot. There were always border fights post-1945 (after Japan was forced out). Both sides wanted to invade the other, but in 1950, NK invaded SK with the support of Stalin and Mao. That support is what provided NK with the belief they could win. Add to it the paranoia in the US about Communism after nuclear blueprints were sold to the Soviets and even though the US didn't want to be in Korea, there was little choice unless it was to become a fully communist country. Plus, Mao had sent thousands of Chinese military to help NK, hoping to gain "face" in the world. A few months before the actual War broke out, the CIA (State and Defense Depts too) saw war was imminent and let Truman know.

2 days after NK invaded SK, US troops were sent to Inchon.

Had the Koreans been allowed to choose their own govt, none of this would happen. The meddling by outsiders isn't something the US started. At this point, we are stuck, which is unfortunate for all Koreans. They've certainly had some really bad history the last 100+ yrs. If every outside country could step away and let the Koreans talk, perhaps they could solve this internally?

These days, when NK claims that the "despicable deeds" are being done to make peace efforts impossible, I giggle a little. It is like their translators are watching cartoons from the early 1970s. But this is serious stuff. At least the ex-Loser-in-Chief didn't completely screw things up.
