The original purpose of putting the monarch's face on the currency was to inspire confidence in the monetary system. Seeing as Charles isn't overseeing Australia's finances, it's somewhat understandable. But then again, neither is Crocodile Dundee or whoever else they're planning to replace him with.

Looks like the Aussies will remove the head of another Charles. This story missed the 374th anniversary by a few days.

I doubt Harry's actions have anything to do with it, but you seem to be implying that his marriage has everything to do with it. Charles is no angel, and the same goes to his brother Prince Andrew.
