The battle for Kobani is still raging despite more than two weeks of airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition targeting the militants in and around the town. The strikes, which are aimed at rolling back the militants’ gains, appear to have DONE LITTLE to blunt their onslaught of Kobani. (Or anywhere else for that matter) After the first week, they had spent 64 million on just bombs alone, that doesn't include transporting and firing them. I wonder how much more money will be waisted before we realize, this strategy will NEVER work!

It's only a waste if military stocks don't go up in value. Otherwise it's a success!

Or the other option would be to match force with force and expand a heavy ground campaign, other than that you will never realistically win this war. And yes, if Russia and China WERE so called wannabe superpowers that in their own right have to deal with radical Islam they would send troops, but for them, battling democracy is of a more higher priority for them.

Not quite true. The Shiites are actually fighting ISIS. Remember that Assad is an Iranian ally and Hizballah is fighting for Assad. ISIS is a solidly Sunni organization and they murder Shiites as happily as they murder Christians and Yazidis.

Russia or the then Soviet Union learned a lesson in Afghanistan after a complete debacle ( a failure partly enabled by western powers who funded and armed scumbags like Bin Laden ).A lesson certain other countries didn't learn. Less intelligent countries think they can control or reshape these areas bitterly divided by many things, not least the stupidity of religion. China has no military interests outside what it sees as its own backyard. I have no time whatsoever for the governments of Russia and China but I credit them with the common sense to stay out of a complete mess that will not be resolved by foreign intervention.

So, Jimizo, what you're saying is all countries, including the U.S. and Turkey, should stay out of Syria and Iraq and Afghanistan, and just let them fight it out until the strongest bands of thugs get the upper hand. @Serrano What has western 'intervention' in Iraq and Afghanistan achieved? 100,000 dead Iraqis and soldiers coming home in body bags. Have you looked at the recent news from Afghanistan? The invasion of Iraq was undertaken with criminal neglect what would be put in place. I can't see what this 'intervention' hopes to achieve either. Perhaps you can enlighten us. No short term solutions please.

Because a large area of Turkey is Kurdish and the Kurds want their own nation.

Turkey holds more sway with NATO, USA, etc., than stateless Kurds.
