I went there for research for a Buddhist Studies course I had to take in college. It was a beautiful place and reverend was super friendly. I hope the culprit is caught pronto!

Seems like a few bigots stayed back in LA instead of going to Florida!!!!

If this is hate crime because of the coronavirus, it's also evidence of the sad state of American education. They can't even tell the difference between China and Japan.

They aren’t alone in this.

In my home country ( the UK ), Indian Hindus were called Jihadis and told to go back to the Middle East. Japanese people are hardly known for their discerning knowledge of the world outside Japan. My old manager once asked our English to Japanese translator to do some translation into German, believing it to be ‘the same thing’ as English. I once met an Irishman in a bar in Istanbul Airport who asked me how good my Chinese was after I told him I lived in Japan.

I could go on here.

Those uneducated precarious people over there can’t distinct between Japanese, Chinese, other Asians. They wouldn’t even find all those areas on a school globe, if they ever have seen one. lol

Could be proud boys

I am amazed at how many people do not know what or where Asia is, and how diverse the people that live there are.

As always SICK minds produce sick events and stories, this is a beautiful place of worship, hope they catch this animal and punish him or her.

Antifa or BLM? Fits their pattern.

If it’s a pattern you’ll be able to provide examples of other Buddhist Temples that have been vandalized by Antifa or BLM. Especially ones committed by a single male as the security camera captured here.

Antifa or BLM? Fits their pattern.

Yeah, a lone male commiting a hate crime against minorities? Definitely Antifa or BLM. No way the KKK, Qanon, Neo Nazis or any other Trump related group would ever do anything like this just because they do stuff like this all the time. Definitely it was the Libs.

I can't help feeling annoyed to see Asian athletes take the knee for BLM, meanwhile innocent Asians are getting targeted and nobody does a darn thing about it.

3 ( +12 / -9 )

Hang on there fellas.

Among the other suspects (Antifa or BLM?. bigots, Those uneducated precarious people, proud boys, a hate crime, a meth head), this could (I repeat "could") be a Japanese American who is super upset over the bill for his grandmother's funeral.

Keep an open mind.

Antifa or BLM? Fits their pattern.

Probably something repeated on Fox news or at CPAC.

That is the only pattern and the pattern has nothing to do with facts or reality.

Does the average Japanese or Chinese person know the difference between a German and an Austrian? A Serbian and Bulgarian? People living their lives can’t be expected to be literate in the nationalities and cultures of every region on the planet. What they should be expected to do is respect the rights of others. That isn’t what happens when people are not educated in the rights of individuals over group identities. The more you emphasize tribalism the more tribalism you will get.

Pointing out the possibility does make the point

Recursive logic at work.

And I was hoping that the susceptibility to conspiracies would be on the decline.

The surge in anti-Asian hate crimes across America can directly be attributed to a climate of extreme intolerance by the former president of the U.S. who seemed to revel in labeling the coronavirus, the China virus. It was almost like you had to pull Donald's teeth just for him to speak out against the hate crimes and negative stereotyping going on against Asians in America last year.

Gangs of black teenagers attacking Asian business has been going on for years. Elderly Asians being pushed to the ground randomly - not because of corona. This has been going on for years! Recently, 84 year old Asian man slammed into a wall by @ 19-year-old who jumped across a road to attack him. The man died. The 19-year-old’s neighborhood wants him released. Asians are perceived as easy passive targets by African American criminals. And they are hated for the way they have succeeded without welfare or Affirmative action campaigns.

This article is unnecessarily provocative and divisive because it seeks to lay blame, to some extent, without any evidence.

Don’t blame the article and then do the exact thing you are complaining about.

Sounds like a meth head to me.

Sad. I apologize for all Americans to other Asian-Americans and visitors from Japan for these ignorant acts.

I hope they find the people, hold them accountable, and force restitution for this.

No excuses for damaging someone else's property.

My initial thought was some teens being stupid. Whether the other incidents are related is yet to be seen. They are completely different, except the same location. 3 stupid acts by 3 different people or 3 stupid acts by 1 group - both are concerning.

That is 100 % correct. All the videos I have seen have black Americans attacking Asians, and this is on the liberal CNN. So there you have it, blacks are racist, too. Who would have thought? Can "minorities" be racist? By the way, I prefer to say "Black American" rather than African American. Why are we not saying Asian American, European American....or any other type of American?

Lots of talk about patterns and plans but zero evidence.

A Japanese temple is vandalized and it’s somehow the fault of BLM, Antifa and Biden...because, well, just because....

Asians, most often those of Korean descent, own many of the small grocery and liquor stores in South LA. The owners often view their customers with great suspicion and blacks pick up on this. It is not subtle. They accuse the locals of shoplifting, loitering and driving away other customers, while the locals accuse the store owners of price gouging because there are few alternatives in many parts of LA for fresh food as full service grocery stores are a rarity. Selection is thus limited and the food often isn't all that fresh. There is some truth to both side's claims. The pent up anger exploded into open violence during the 1992 LA riots and has never really been addressed to anyone's satisfaction. Sometimes the accumulation of small slights doesn't garner any attention or is deliberately ignored until it explodes into something larger.

Doubt it. That’s in LA!! No right minded radical far right crazy would even think of going into that hornets nest, they wouldn’t be able to leave alive.

Bob Fosse: A Japanese temple is vandalized and it’s somehow the fault of BLM, Antifa and Biden...because, well, just because....

Pointing out the possibility does make the point that it could be these Left wing groups. The article associated this incident with an overall pattern of violence against Asians without any evidence as to the motivations of the vandal. If it is legitimate to blame this incident on a general anti -asian spike in violence it cannot also be ruled out as being associated with a general large increase in Left wing motivated violence and vandalism that has occurred in major Democrat run cities over the past year.

This article is unnecessarily provocative and divisive because it seeks to lay blame, to some extent, without any evidence. If the author wanted to make a point about anti-Asian violence it should be backed by facts not conjecture. It is quite possibly true that Asians are subject to racially motivated crimes out of proportion to other groups but the article provides no evidence of it. Stats from an advocacy group isn’t proof - it’s advocacy. Let’s wait to see what the investigation finds. If it turns out the perpetrator was a non-White male I suspect the response to the incident will be calibrated according. In other words not media reporting but media advocacy. There has been way too much of this leading to a decline in trust in the media and within society overall.
