This tragedy is reminding me more and more of the infamous Aberfan landslide diasaster from 1966, where 116 children and 28 adults were killed when a spoil tip (essentially the waste soil and rock generated from mineral mining) near the town of Aberfan collapsed due to heavy rains and the resulting landslide slammed into the school, killing half the 7-10 year old school age children of that town.
