A sad day. All power to the people of Hong Kong, and long live democracy!

The end of Freedom for Hong Kong; you knew it was coming.

Boycott Hong Kong. Don't go there; they're all leaving, too, anyway.

Hopefully, a new publication, digital, etc., will rise from the ashes to succeed Apple Daily.

That’s what Beijing is hoping for.

sad day for democracy and the world

It will be a sad souvenir of the day civil liberties died in Hong Kong.

We all need to be aware of what China is up to. First was Hong Kong. Next is....?

Next on the Chicom hit list: TAIWAN.

The CCP started their overthrow of democracy in Hong Kong over a year ago...

Anyone remember the hard line, stand up to them, "fight like hell" pushback from the Trump administration?

No, neither do I... It's clear Xi doesn't either...

Freedom of the press is cornerstone of a free society.

CCP doesn’t believe in a free society, suppressed people is the fuel that drives this brutal regime.

One more nail in the coffin (of the CCP) 'cos nothing lasts forever.

Sorry, a simple glance will tell you that both are just systems of thugs and slaves, masters and the obedient.

That’s a long rant without much meaning anywhere. Wounded knee was wrong and is acknowledged as such, the CCP denies anything is happening in Xinjiang.

The CCP are the Nazis of this age, they are trying to wipe off a part of their population because of their religion.

Gloves are off, WTP. History is not on your side.

A sad day indeed.

Now everyone can see what China is all about!!!

And a dark shroud descends over HK. China's CCP is stealthily enveloping HK while rest of the world is preoccupied with other issues, like the pandemic (which is affecting everyone).

Freedom in Hong Kong was doomed the day it was given to the Peoples Republic of China. I do not know why people are surprised?

Yeah, what happened to "one country, two systems"? And yeah, Hong Kong is practice for Taiwan.

Note carefully that the South China Morning Post, that revered old newspaper, had not been touched by the Chinese. It has, however, turned into mostly a CCP propaganda outlet. I have read SCMP for many decades but about a year and a half ago one could sense the change in editorial policy and I dumped them.

I wonder how long before some copies of the final issue turn up on eBay for a fortune?

That’s what Beijing is hoping for.

The writing is on the wall for Hong King - communism will come. It was destined from the day the British formerly ended the lease in the territory through agreement with the CCP. It’s just a shame that the government was a marxist-socialist dystopia at the time the lease ran out. There is no mechanism to enforce the 50 year transition agreement. I am just surprised the politburo allowed the people this long before lowering the red boom on them. Socialism is a horrid way to organize a nation.

In 1945, when Mao was rolling across China, the entire previous corrupt ruling clique led by Chiang Kai Shek escaped to Taiwan (then, for us, Formosa in Portuges) and proclaimed the 'Republic' of Taiwan, essentially a military dictatorship. The native people of Taiwan were pushed into the mountains as the former rulers and their murderous sycophants invaded the island. Some say there is actually a difference between hierarchical Capitalism and hierarchical Communism. Sorry, a simple glance will tell you that both are just systems of thugs and slaves, masters and the obedient. Disobedience in both systems has exactly the same results. Which is MORE viable? Neither, because they are, in practice, identical. Is there something in the rise of 'China' which differs from the rise of 'America' other than the scope of murderous ethnic cleansing that occurred in North America during that rise? Can the Uighurs ever compare to what is represented by Wounded Knee? Was Hawaii, the People, asked if they wanted to be a U.S. State when White, U.S. Christian missionaries stole their islands? Suppose the Native Hawaiians decide they no longer want to be attached to the U.S. How many of them will we kill? THAT is what we talk about here. OWNERSHIP. Who OWNS the People of Taiwan. Don't bother asking them because they have NEVER had ANY choice in the last 127 years since Japan came to visit and then the escaping and invading mainland psychopaths under Chiang took over. We could ask the native People who have been living on that island for many thousands of years but, who cares?, they're just another set of Palestinians with no say in who abuses and kills them and steals their land. Who OWNS the real People of Taiwan, who SHOULD own the real People of Taiwan, is the question and, to my mind, NO ONE. But I'm a very small minority...
