It's a shame, and ironic, it takes participating in war to become a pacifist, and be against it. If only we could be against it BEFORE it starts. Anyway, RIP, Mr. Choules... you deserve it. And so ends an era.

41 years of a military career? Unlike Desmond Doss, this guy is definitely not on my short list of pacifists. Becoming a pacifist after you are too old to be accepted in any military after retiring the military is rather a wet noodle of a statement unless you are doing one heck of a lot more than refusing to participate in the Anzacs parade.

He sounds like an old soldier I might have liked to have known, but singing his praises for pacifism is a bit insulting.

“I was nobody (in England),” he told Australian Broadcasting Corp radio in November 2009 of his years in the UK. “But I was somebody here.”

Pretty good description of Austrailia. It's pleasant that he ended up having a good life. I'll have to see if I can find the book.

Doss was a 7th Day Adventist. Another red herring from you.
