No, the Taliban can't be trusted. Look at the way they massacred those Afghan soldiers who surrendered with their hands in the air on that recent video. A bad sign of things to come for anybody who they feel wronged them. They're comin' for blood. That's for sure.

"Militias with a brutal history have been resurrected to fight the Taliban but their loyalties are to their commanders, many of them U.S.-allied warlords with ethnic-based support."

This is the best hope for Afghanistan. Unlike the Pashtun-dominated Taliban, other ethnic communities in Afghanistan are somewhat progressive. Instead of just abandoning Afghanistan, the US should support these warlords who have traditionally been opposed to Taliban and provide them with arms and training so that they can be a counterweight to Taliban.

These are the people with whom Trump negotiated.

At some point you have to move on or you will continue to languish in your hatred for him. Change your avatar and remember that your side won the last time. biden is the president now - you should be reveling in the US surrender to the Taliban.

These are the people with whom Trump negotiated.

... negotiated and got a clear and fast withdrawal deal for May, the way it should be done.

The Biden administration first ditched the deal and then announced unilaterally their own withdrawal with a firm date several months in the future ..... the most inept, ridiculous way to conduct foreign policy one can imagine. The incompetence of the current US administration is mind-boggling.

They are not even allowed by their religion to make deals with the so-called unbelievers, only if under losing pressure and only if the results are advantageous. Now let’s check it, the deal is with ‘unbelievers’, they are not in a losing position and any deal or compromise would not be advantageous for them. So that whole thing is simply a lie or fake.

The Taliban want "order" but only their kind of order which goes against the will of other Afghani's who also want their own "order"... Considering how many different groups want their own order their way Afghanistan has no chance until the general populace finally stands up and says, "ENOUGH!".

This is why they're ruled by tribal warlords... everyone wants to have it their own way and nobody elses.

Biden trusted the Afghan government to let them handle this situation, and so he surrendered.

No way Biden has the ability to intervene successfully between the Afghans and the Taliban.

The US should support these warlords

Because supporting warlords strictly because ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ has worked out so well for the US in the past. Remember when we were supporting Saddam Hussein cuz he fought the Iranians? Right up until he invaded Kuwait? Or how about that time we gave money and training and Stinger missiles to the mujahideen cuz they fought the Soviets? Right up until they decided they didn’t like the US anymore and turned those weapons on us? Oh! Oh! How about that time we sold weapons to Central American death squads using money from selling weapons to Iran, who had fought against Saddam Hussein, who we supported?

I’m sure none of these short-sighted deals had any long term geo-political consequences whatsoever /s

Yeah, Obama kept this mess going on for 8 years, Biden then messed up what Trump had set in place, and as a result we get the mess of the current situation.

Sometimes it’s better to just take the L instead of throwing good money after bad.

And remember it was (and is) the swamp, the establishment neocons and neolibs of both "parties" that wanted (and still want) this disaster. Trump was the one tried to stop it, for which he was bashed by the swam and your media, and finally did prepare an orderly exit in May, which the Biden administration promptly blew up and replaced it with the current ongoing disaster.

That's part of the price of being America and responsible for protecting the smaller countries of the free world, like the UK, Australia, Japan, etc.

It is ok to lie to infidels. Any agreement that doesn't include verification of compliance needs to be DoA.
