The extortionist must be stupid to believe that Letterman would actually give up any money. He even struggles to deal with his child support obligations. This guy is a major to chronic tight ass according to the stories from his previous love interests. He would take them out to dinner and expect them to pay even though he was earning over a thousand times more than they did. I wouldn't call it a mistake. It happens all the time, especially in this country. People wouldn't even think twice before they sleep with their coworkers. Some happens for just one time, while others last months. It's human nature, no shame should be involved.

Admitting to affairs is not a good look in America - arguably the most fundamentalist Christian-conservative nation on earth. Americans do not like people who commit these "sins". Poor Dave is in a world of trouble now.
