Wow that's what happens when you get a conservative government, what a bunch of kill joys. By the way tourism will suffer, I have friends in Gernamny who make the trip just for the coffee shops. They also tend to shop and eat meals while in Amsterdam.

This is all about controlling the individual and nothing else.

The flood of pot heads will be on here complaining that their civil liberties have been taken away. Oh no!!

It is about time the Dutch economy is in the tank and regular worker are fed up with having the dredge of the world suck the life out of them, these losers show up in the Netherlands squat in others peoples home refuse to pay for utilities and panhandle to buy drugs, how much longer did people expect the working Dutch to go on accepting this and paying for it, Honestly those about to complain about this would you be in favor of paying for other peoples habits and life style!

I also laughed at the title. Clever!

Damn conservatives. Good job killing your tourist industry if this goes through. Why can't people just be allowed to have fun? Theres no harm in it. I wish everyone would just wake up and stop being so ridiculous and pigheaded over such a harmless substance. It never ceases to piss me off.

I also laughted at Helter Skelter's comment. Loved it. Have another hit liberal potheads. The world will all get better and you can dream of Obamapeace in the world and sing Kumbaya around the "coffee table". In the meantime after you come down from your "dreamtime" you'll find someone else has taken over your culture and country. Well that is if all Dutch were like the potheads that go their for drug tourism.

I'm tired of liberals and their pot. They should abuse ocycontin like my conservative hero Rush Limbaugh.

Im tired of conservative control freaks telling everyone what to do. Some people like pot and some people dont. Right or wrong has no bearing on the subject it`s more about what turns your crank.

I wonder how many of the non-Dutch here, protesting the policy of conservatives in that sovereign nation, react when they hear of their fellow countrymen taking advantage of lax and liberal US gun laws and spending half their vacations (as some J-males do, in Honolulu and other US cities) at the pistol shooting ranges to be found in American cites...

I support the Dutch conservatives in their attempt to do what's necessary to rid their country of dope fiend foreigners who infest that nation.

About time too. Hopefully the world is turning more conservative with regard to social mores, after all the damage inflicted on the West since 1960s radicalism.

after all the damage inflicted on the West since 1960s radicalism.

I truly hope you're at least sixty; you're only going to get more and more bitter and conservative.

I wonder what the Japanese think about the MJ cafes in Amsterdam? Considering how "terrifying" MJ is considered to be here, it must be difficult for them to wrap their heads around it.

From the WSJ:

While Japan has been known for its tolerance of cigarette smoking and public drunkenness, the nation has long had some of the strictest laws against marijuana-related offenses. Those convicted for possessing marijuana face prison terms of up to five years, though first-time offenders are usually given suspended sentences. In contrast, in most parts of the U.S., possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor typically punished by a small fine and possibly a short jail stay.

Liberals around the world are high-fiving themselves over this issue since they want all governments to control every aspect of their lives. In the Netherlands they're about to get what they continually shriek about.

If this goes through, Holland will lose millions of dollars from tourism. Down with small minded Conservatives!

delrennich:"If this goes through, Holland will lose millions of dollars from tourism. Down with small minded Conservatives!"

That is a fallacy often repeated but the actual numbers are that any gain from tourism has been completely wiped out by the loses due to low productivity of user the strain on the social infrastructure that squatters, users and illegal overstayers have been putting on the system not to mention the massive lose in revenue for utilities that most squatter and users never pay but use by tapping in to the system add all that to the fact that most of these potheads don't even pay into the social system you get what the Netherlands has today a small portion of it citizens paying for the habits of the dredge of Europe and they are fed up with it.

"Liberals around the world are high-fiving themselves over this issue since they want all governments to control every aspect of their lives."

Romeo, I don't think you know what "liberal" means.

Cool! They are taking another hit! I hope it is a nice, long one, with really clean white smoke!

"Romeo, I don't think you know what "liberal" means"

Heh, it's funny to see them screaming about freedoms and NO to big government on another thread, and here foaming at the mouth for the government to step in and curtail freedoms.

At least pot is TAXED in the NL. 20% sales tax plus the income tax is a fair trade so that other people can make the personal choice to light up a spliff....

And I've never heard of anyone taking a "hit" of pot.

The title is pants if you ask me.

Madverts: "gimme a hit off your j" thought it would help in context.

Great story. Hard to imagine that a little kerfluffle like this could rock the country you live in.

Europe grows more quaint and more twee with each passing month.

Why call it "Liberal" Dutch marijuana policy? The last thing the world needs is the spread of American styled partisan politics. It dumbs down political discourse and is a disservice to the center/balanced majority. It should just be Dutch marijuana policy takes another hit but I guess throwing Liberal in there adds flames to fire(or clicks to a story), it could have equally been called a libertarian policy (no government intervention in the free market).

Romeo, I don't think you know what "liberal" means.

No. But he knows what ever it means he hates it.
