Only the UK and France seeking a no fly zone over Libya means they have no balls, nothing to really back this idea up, now if the US Navy puts a nice aircraft cruiser near Libya and starts buzzing away in and around Libya, TOP GUN, like the movie, some how I think that idiot dictator Kaddafy will get the idea to stop killing his own people, go back to his crappy tent in the desert, maybe enjoy his virgin body gaurds and then Libya can move on and become a democratic, free, HAPPY country. No USA involved, then we will just see ideas, Obama needs to put his words into action and at least send in some drone in and around Tripoli, to scare daffy Kaddafy into being a bit nicer to his own people.

It's all about oil. NATO is getting ready to invade. SAS an U.S. special forces are on the ground already. U.S. warships are moving through the Suez Canal. This invasion for control of oil is all being done under the guise of some trumped up humanitarian "relief" effort.

elbudamexicano,

The USA being involved in a no-fly zone would mean the USA was indeed involved. I think they and the rest of the world should stay out of this one and let the Libyans figure their futures out for themselves. The USA getting involved again in another country's fight just means people whining about the USA later. If the UK and France want to stick their noses in, I say let them go for it. The US should sit this one out. Nothing good will come of them getting into this.

Agreed. Why is what happens in Libya, any business of the US? Is the Libyan government attacking US citizens, seizing US property? The US is not, and should not be the worlds policeman.

One sentence : Mind your own business!!!!

Completely agree.

The French have their own aircraft carriers I believe. Let them do it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The UK government is in the process of scrapping its aircraft carriers, so how do they expect to enforce a no-fly zone? They want someone else to do it I suppose. They shouldn't ask for something they are not prepared to deliver themselves.

The US and the free world has involved many countries where there is no oil. The oil was there with Gaddafy for decades. He could have sold it and made his own people an income. Now his own people are dying with out food. It is not the responsibility of US to feed Gaddafy for satisfying ANTI free world supporters. If Russsia and China wants the people of Libya to live a happy life then they should interfere than toasting wine with Gaddafy. It is the people of Libya fighting aganist Gaddafy... I think you got the point.

Anyway who listens to the french and british anymore? The arab league should warn any western country from interfering.

Exbuldmexicano-I think your country(mexico)is in much mess than libya. If you have ideas, why dont you solve your problems or call for foreign help to solve your problems?

All these internal conflicts will eventually become one massive battle if they aren`t sorted out. Then everyone can say their prayers.

UK and France sit and watch, which is about all they can do. Without China and Russia's consent, the UN cannot impose a no-fly zone. "It all depends on whose ox is being gored." Instead of "Drill baby, drill" it is "Flow oil, flow." Who really will pay? The Japanese consumer of petroleum products and the economy will not grow.

A no-fly zone would seal Gadhafi's fate so western countries should just make the initial moves because the moment he thinks it's going to happen Gadhafi will try to escape by plane(if he still can) or by boat. "Fight to the death and the last drop of blood". Believe me, this guy will scurry like a rat.

Maybe, but ya know, I really don't want to push this maniac into a corner. Aside from this, I say it again, how is this any of the US business? Because Libya produces oil?

“We don’t want a foreign military intervention (on the ground), but we do want a no-fly zone. We are all waiting for one.”

Choosy beggars ? hahaha

The rebels oppose any Western ground troops deploying in Libya, but they’re pressing for a no-fly zone to relieve them of the threat from the air.

I am glad they oppose ground troops. Sure wish the Afganis, and Iraquis would say the same thing.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Strange request.

A no-fly zone will also need to be reinforced on the ground. So the rebels will control the airports while the "foreign" forces fly overhead?

Still say if you are not Libyan don't get involved it will only prolong the fighting and cause more harm and suffering.

Establishing a no-fly zone over Libya in the same way as the US did over Iraq is impractical and undesirable This operation can (potentially) be done casualty free in a single day. Libya's fighters must use runways. The USA has an arsenal of purpose-designed cratering munitions. So we crater their runways from one end to the other and that's it. The B2 Stealth bombers could handle pretty much the whole mission with virtually nil threat from air defenses

Who are the rebels really? do we know anything about them. Or are we to automatically assume they are the down and outers? As a poster the other day pointed out, we did help out the Taliban once upon a time.

I hope allied planes don`t get shot down. The crap will really hit the fan.

Doesn't an independent country have a right under international law to defend its existence from foreign invasion or internal insurgency?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No fly zones or war games? French pilots going after Libyan pilots in French-made jets?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Did not follow this news that much. But was surprised that this tyrant even has supporters from unknown, little Asian island nations. Is that true?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The latest from news sources is that Gadhafi is trying to strike a deal with the opposition leaders to flee the country.

After pleading from the uprising’s leaders, Britain and France began drafting a U.N. resolution for a no-fly zone in Libya that could balance the scales.

And where was the US when the Egyptians & Tunisians needed a nofly zone? This selective humanitarian imperailism is getting annoying & the entire non-Western world sees through this charade. Why is the US not being tough on the Bahrain government? The Shias are the majority yet the minority Sunnis treat them like crap. Oh, I get it...the US 5th Fleet is docked at Bahrain so it's okay for the Sheik there to brutalize his people. And US politicians wonder 'WHY THEY HATE US?' They hate your hypocrasy!

Mexico no Libya, and if we had an idiot dictator like Kaddafy he would have been killed long, long ago, so I can not wait for the regular Libyans to tear this guy up into pieces, kind of what the Iraqis wanted to do with Saddam Hussein, but at least they got to hang him and curse at him before killing him off, hopefully Kaddaffy will not be so lucky, time to go, and news for all the bleeding heart liberals, the USA is the POLICE, the FIREMAN etc..of the world, if you are holding your breath for the Chinese, Russians to step in and help, better luck for a snowball in hell not to melt amigos.

Elbudmexicmano-your leader is as stupid as the drug leaders who run your country.Mexicans are idiotP like Ghaddaffi.

Libya will solve its problems

Hello, NK. Maybe, maybe a no-fly zone will be declared if you try something. Everyone will have to talk about it for several weeks before action can be taken. We know what the USA's response is - no action in Libya. What is Japan's position on the no-fly in Libya?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

maxtheitpro: And where was the US when the Egyptians and Tunisians needed a nofly zone?

When did they nee a no-fly zone? The US got involved and solved the situation in a matter of weeks with little bloodshed. The US has stayed out the situation in Libya and the slaughter continues. Your take? America shouldn't get involved. It's just nonsensical arguments from someone who uses nothing but prepared scripts regardless of the situation.

SuperLib at 03:42 AM JST - 9th March. The US has stayed out the situation in Libya and the slaughter continues. Your take? America shouldn't get involved.

They are already more involved than what you read. U.S. and NATO is already providing many weapons to resistance group. NATO is already planning for ground troops if necessary. This will escalate because U.S. will remove Gadhafi at any cost.

Aren't these the same Libyians who cheered the release of Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi and cheered the murder of the passengers and crew on Pan Am flight 103?

Why would the British and Americans want to risk their soldiers and sailors lives for the cheering Libyians??????

arrestpaul at 04:12 AM JST - 9th March. Why would the British and Americans want to risk their soldiers and sailors lives for the cheering Libyians??????

Simple: Libya oil control led by U.S.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Libya had nothing to do with the Pan Am downing. Watch: The Maltese Double Cross – Lockerbie

US has to be very careful here. So far, thank god, I have not seen any American flags being burned among protesters in Tunisia, Egypt, Lybia, Yemen, and Jordan. US should go with UN, not alone.

I'm not a Khaddafi fan but think the same.

Exactly!!!

It is amazing how the liberal press and politicians are drooling to get militarily involved in yet another quagmire in the muslim world.... after (correctly) criticizing the Bush administration for that. What an unbelievable u-turn.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

After over 35 comments and wasted lives, the discussion continues. UK, France, Germany and Italy are only interested in protecting their oil supplies. It is understandable, but the "great leader" is only interested in selling oil and increasing his reserve - i.e. bank account. Six months from now, this story will not be in anyone's memory. We buy, he profits, the people suffer, and everyone wonders why it happened.

"Aren't these the same Libyians who cheered the release of Lockerbie bomber"

I think not. Of course, I don't have any name lists of attendees / participants to use to confirm that.

Do you?

taj - I think not. Of course, I don't have any name lists of attendees / participants to use to confirm that.

Just the televised videos of crowds cheering Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi arriving in Libya after his release and the televised videos of the crowds cheering the successful terrorist attack on Pan Am 103.

tai:

" Aren't these the same Libyians who cheered the release of Lockerbie bomber "

Yes, of course. And both the pro and anti Gaddafi sides did that. So, no matter who wins in Libya, the West is not better off.

sfjp330: They are already more involved than what you read. U.S. and NATO is already providing many weapons to resistance group. NATO is already planning for ground troops if necessary. This will escalate because U.S. will remove Gadhafi at any cost.

Really? The US is providing weapons to the resistance group? Last I checked there are European special forces being held in Libya as we speak. And the no-fly zone proposal is being spearheaded by France and the UK. And the weapons being used against the Libyan people are European. And the Europeans are famous for getting their own oil supplies from Libya and selling off terrorists to secure more. The US's position has been to any no-fly zone would be tantamount to an act of war, something that really doesn't seem like a call to arms.

And your take is that the US wants to remove Ghaddafi at any cost because of oil? Obviously you are a very rational and intelligent person and we should all listen to your words of wisdom.
