Hope the tsunami is not headed toward Japan. Japan's has had more than its share of problems since the big one wiped out the nuclear power plant at Fukushima.

Wow, a 7.7 quake in Canada... now that's not something you hear about often, though it's a well known fact that any 'big one' on the San Andreas fault or sister faults would hit Western Canada as well. Anyway, glad no major tsunami seems to have been generated and hope everyone in both Canada and Hawaii are all okay.

People posting here do not understand about the "Ring of Fire" and Western Canada, Alaska all the way down to California, Mexico and to Chile are part of this "Ring of Fire" and it continues on our side of the Pacific from North of Japan, Russia, etc..and south of us here in Japan to Taiwan, the Philippines, and if I am not mistaken Indonesia, so just we have not "heard" of any major quakes in Western Canada, that means NOTHING in geological terms, happy to hear no body was hurt out in Hawaii, aloha and take care!

While this quake occurred well north of the Cascadia Subduction Zone, it could be a warning sign of a Cascadia event. The region is capable of producing a mega-thrust quake and has previously generated a tsunami that reached Japan about 500 years ago.
