My boss is working in a Christian ear hospital in that very area... I really hope he's safe.

The last I read was nearly 700 dead (according to CNN)--and it could go sadly much higher. :-( The worst part is that the earthquake occurred fairly close to the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu, and that means many buildings in the capital city may have been substantially damaged, too.

My thoughts go out to all the people impacted. Only spent a few weeks in Nepal around Holi time and found the people there to be wonderful, generous, and fun! Took about 5 days to be a tourist. Was there upgrading the wifi network infrastructure at a Buddhist Monastery. The monks need their youtube. ;) Worked on my karma at the same time. I haven't been able to check-in with my friends there yet.

Nepal has rolling blackouts as a way of life - 6hrs of power, 6 hrs without, 6 hrs of power, 6 hrs without. The power schedule shifts daily by 1 hour to make it equally inconvenient for everyone in the country. Many businesses are used to working without power.

Their roads and hospital infrastructure can't handle this. They need help. Read that Pakistan has offered everything they have - it will be needed. Hopefully India and China and USA and Japan and Australia will help too. This is massive. Many thousands of people are likely buried and dead. There are probably many missing people in slides on many other mountains in Nepal where people live and work.

If you can't go there to help, please open your pockets and give to a charity helping there like the Red Cross. They will need this help for years.

Nearly 1000 dead now :(

The circa 1,500 dead reported so far is around Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. I don't want to imagine what happens when we reach the smaller towns and villages near the earthquake epicenter--the final death toll could be shocking appalling....

Can Sankei kick out a JT mod? I think JT would more powerful than Sankei.

3000+ dead and they haven't really gotten outside KTM yet. This is terrible. Haven't been able to reach any of my friends there yet - 3 days since the quake. At least the airport is open.
