I am not surprise considered he and Merkel are the most hated leaders in Europe because of their weak handling of the immigrant crisis these couple of years and their eagerness to do business with dictators.

Slapped in the face, is what he deserves ! Very amusing , so funny , love it.

Macron insisted he was unafraid and would continue to meet people in this way.

yippee !

This is completely untrue. Up to last year, both Macron and Merkel enjoyed the highest approval ratings of any leaders in Europe. I would hardly call them "hated".

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2020/10/02/confidence-in-merkel-is-at-all-time-high-in-several-countries-during-her-last-full-year-in-office/

Overall, a median of 75% across the surveyed countries say they have confidence in Merkel to do the right thing regarding world affairs. That is higher than the share who say the same about French President Emmanuel Macron (63%),

You should stop watching right-wing news channels, they give you a completely false idea of what life reality is.

Terrible, the attacker is a THUGS who don't appreciate the values of freedom of expression and democracy, fine $ him then lock him up for awhile. if this thug was in a third world country he will be shot dead on the spot.

The government uses violence all the time. That's acceptable?

Whatever political/ ideological spectrum you’re on, it’s never a good idea to slap a sitting President on their face. Idiotic.

5 ( +12 / -7 )

Slapping politicians? Non!

Locking them up? Oui!

All of his security detail should be fired. Given the political climate, they should have been ready for this.

spot on

Slapped in the face, is what he deserves !

A president democratically and directly elected by his own population, who likes to get in contact with people.

He deserves the respect of a president.

The guy who slapped him deserves to go into jail

if this thug was in a third world country he will be shot dead on the spot.

The same would be true in the US I think. But, well, oh never mind..............

Really, given how British MP Jo Cox was murdered in a car park in broad daylight by a far right extremist only a few years ago.

Whatever one opinion of French President Emmanuel Macron personally/politically or for that that matter any politician, if one cannot or will not enter into open and honest debate within a democratic society, and resort to violence and extremism, then you don't deserve to be part of that from society.

The popularity poll rating Macron or Merkel in October 2020 is of little relevance.

It is the here and now that matters, if ones takes any poll seriously.

To have even a partial insight, the poll/data/margin of error needs tracking and analyzed over a period of time.

After four years of Macron, are the French any closer to understanding what he stands for?

More like they are hated for forcing some of the EU nations with histories of large annual budget deficits and incipient bond defaults to raise taxes, reduce spending and run something resembling a balanced budget as the price of the Germans and French granting them loans to stave off default. A couple of neo-fascist regimes in the EU don't like France and Germany leaning on them to adhere to EU human rights and judicial independence standards, particularly Poland and Hungary.

The popularity poll rating Macron or Merkel in October 2020 is of little relevance.

It is when the original poster posited that they both were widely hated for their handling of the migrant crisis a few years back. They weren't.

Jsapc, I thing PEW research (highly respected) analysis is interesting in the manner the data is collected globally and broken down accordingly.

Its the also the comparison over a period on 6 months. I think Marcon has to pull his finger out politically.

Having said that, to slap the fellow round the face is a criminal/outrageous act of thuggery.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The slapper yelled a royalist rallying cry before slapping Macron, which in French culture leaves few doubts to his political affiliations. But it is indeed just a logical conjecture at this point, we do not know what really motivated him.

Insurrectionist. Insulting the majesty of the President and seeking to,overthrow the legitimate government. Throw the book atmhim

europoors are not as outspoken as amerilards, they tell you what you want to hear to keep harmony but they’re seething on the inside that their politicians have compromised their social welfare system and security.

We in the US feel the same pain now.

What is WRONG with people???

I don't think Europe is as bad as we are here at this point, but we've all lost so much civility & decency in how we treat people.

And threatening and assaulting politicians--not cool.

What is frankly depressing, this fool had the unique opportunity to openly debate with French President.

Face to face

What a waste, a total loser.

I bet those bodyguards are sweating bullets right now.

This is bound to happen, I guess props to "Ares" for going back into the fray.

Macron slapped in the face while greeting crowd, rather embarrassing..

Remember a shoe was thrown at Bush Jr. during a press briefing in Mideast years ago?

These are small prices politicians pay to become nations' leaders..

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Macron should have given the bloke a smack. You can defend yourself.

Look at John Prescott, the then Deputy Prime Minister and his wife were targeted by pro-fox hunting protesters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UhME8dcOqc

Hiro,

Both Macron and Merkel enjoy really high approval ratings, and seem to be doing rather well overall. Don't just pretend you know what you're talking about!

lol

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Unacceptable in any democracy. The penalty should be severe.

Some of my most cherished memories after college in London, post student, was life spent in Lyon, Caluire et cuire,

The friends, relationships built on trust, the experiences, the fun , the cuisine, the French way of life, easy but special..

Those same friends, refer to French President Emmanuel Macron, rather rudely as Mac-Moron.

They are not right wing loony tunes, ready to slap him in the face, all have families, and adhere to a traditional French way of life.

Family three hour, early evening suppers

Marine Le Pen, with a majority of French MEPs is sitting there patiently waiting to politicly boil

French President Emmanuel Macron in his own inexperience and stupidly.
