Our humanity must compel us to do everything in our power to save lives,” he said.

Nice to think, but when there are so many guns in circulation throughout the US, and in the hands of so many people of questionable mental health (including those suffering from alpha-male wannabe-itis), there's a higher likelihood lives will be taken. The US has always been a violent country and adding more guns each day has just made it even more so. The country being in a state of perpetual war has affected the nation's mental health.

Nobody nearby heard nutin', nobody nearby saw nuthin', nobody nearby knows nuthin'. Safer to keep your pie hole shut and never talk to the po-leece. Just shrug your shoulders, nuttin' to see. Right?

What? There’s nothing funny about this! Are you implying that’s how every single person in that community talks?

It’s not by nature a violent country, never was but it had a very violent and bloody revolutionary history that is true, the constant and fruitless attacks on the firearms will never solve the issue of violence that is overwhelming coming from the poorest cities. Cities that pretty much are completely much neglected by the party that wants to destroy the 2nd amendment and confiscate weapons from law-abiding citizens. Because the DNP has abandoned these communities the cycle of poverty, boredom, kids joining gangs, dropping out of school, and all the crime growing as a result is the catalyst for the increasing gun spikes. A lot does involve mental health issues and this is another area that gets overlooked by the DNP and as long as the left refuses to address the issues that are destroying the communities of their largest voting constituents and just focusing solely on the firearms won’t solve anything.

bass4funk is right: America isn't a violent country and guns are not a problem. Just people keep killing each other with guns. It's very peaceful really. And in any case, the Democrats are to blame.

Compared with other countries like Japan and European ones, America is much more violent with the highest numbers of gun homicides and also the largest prison population in the entire world.

Well again, this shouldn't go unchallenged, if you are talking about guns then yes, if you are talking about knives then it goes to Europe, then you can flip that argument around to say that Europe is more violent when it comes to knife attacks, that is a weak argument, there is nothing in the water or Kool-aid, violence is everywhere, it has nothing to do with the geographical location. Again, if the left wants to wage a war on guns, then say it, say that your goal is to eliminate guns because it wouldn't stop the killing or gangs, etc. People will find other weapons and means to kill people. If the left just continues to focus on the firearms and refuses to address all the other issues mentioned, we might as well just not have this conversation, block all counterarguments, and just go back to the liberal echo chamber argument of demanding that guns be eliminated. It won't happen, but the left can at least debate this issue among themselves.

The country with the greatest gap between the very rich billionaires and the poorest. More than 700 billionaires but only one black one.

And the point of that remark?

Socio-economic and unemployment conditions create crime.

Ok, good point and since the majority of largest crimes happen in minority communities that vote overwhelmingly Democrat then why are they not doing anything to enforce the gun laws that are already in place? Being from California you could see it. Go down to LA County and you always have to be careful in the greater LA area because you never knew what could happen, there was always an element of danger and LA was run by the left. Now an hour away South in Orange County, we didn't have that problem as much, clean, conservative, mostly voted conservative fewer gun homicides, fewer gangs and you don't have to look over your shoulder constantly. The point is, either you enforce the law or you don't.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/585152/people-shot-to-death-by-us-police-by-race/

Sadly, the trend of fatal police shootings in the United States seems to only be increasing, with a total 138 civilians having been shot, nine of whom were Black, as of March 2022. In 2021, there were 1,055 fatal police shootings, and in 2020 there were 1,021 fatal shootings. Additionally, the rate of fatal police shootings among Black Americans was much higher than that for any other ethnicity, standing at 38 fatal shootings per million of the population as of March 2022.

Access to guns can be bought on most streets for little dollars.

And we don't need to bring Japan into the debate, different culture, history, mostly homogeneous, No second amendment.

A person with a gun can kill 50 people in minutes. How long to stab that many to death?

Whether it is one person or 100, it doesn't matter, all lives are equal and one life lost is a tragedy, but making an emotional argument to attack guns and to remove guns just will never work, we need to address all the other issues including mental and racial as well as political issues as to how we should properly deal with this problem. The left making it about guns will only lose again and again and again.

These tragedies do not happen by themselves. The human element is the responsible one for these.

the homicide and incarceration rates for America are much higher than those in the Uk and Japan.

But we are not talking about the UK or Japan, we are talking about the US they have their laws and rules and we have ours and the 2nd amendment isn’t going anywhere.

if you want to do with the problem you have to go to the root cause and dad is not guns you need to go and start from the grassroots and look at the social economical and racial issues that are plaguing these communities. Once you figure that out and you can deal with it and the politicians actually own up to it, then you can sit down and talk about guns, safety and policing, if you want to avoid that, if you don’t wanna discuss it, then nothings gonna get done ever. These are serious problems that need to be addressed or we can all just keep our heads in the sand and pretend like it’s just only the fault of the gun, and the argument which no one is buying.

the homicide rates for America are only meaningful if compared with other countries.

No, because the only thing that the story applies to is America and you’re talking to one and every stat shows that the black on black crimes are a very serious situation that for some reason no one wants to address. It seems like these people are just good for getting votes and that’s it.

In America who commits murder? Drug addictions also play a major part in homicides.

That is a huge part and so is falling in the bathtub but again we are talking about an even bigger problem.

As power for the course, you will do anything to defend gun ownership and resist gun laws.

No, I want the gun laws already on the books enforced
