This should put the fear of God into even the most blase youngster.

Australia has its share of nuts, the ones who dont wear masks as a statement and act as if nothing has happened.
People need to understand that this virus doesn't distinguish between young and old, if your immune system is weak, at risk or compromised there is a good chance it will kill you.
At least you dont have callous leaders who hide in their bunkers and use ordinary people as fodder for their misguided policies.

RIP young one. I wish Japan would take this more seriously and be more open to whats really happening.

“People need to understand that this virus doesn't distinguish between young and old, if your immune system is weak, at risk or compromised there is a good chance it will kill you.”
And if you have no underlying health issues, then the vast majority of us will survive. That is what people need to understand.
Do what we can to protect the vulnerable and elderly, and get on with life. We can’t afford to keep wrecking the economy.
This article doesn’t mention if he had underlying health conditions, nor on any other site.
My condolences to the family, but... the hysteria has to end.
Oxycodin
Yes the hysteria needs to end so the clinics would stop freaking out every time someone has a tiny fever or else no one can see doctor for anything.

Any more information ? Co-morbidities ? Was he obese ?
daito_hak
What are you trying to say really? Here is the conclusion of one of many publications about the COVID-19 mortality among populations of different age:
sf2k
did he drive a truck and was a meat eater?
Zaphod
No co-morbidities? I bet some information is left out in the article.
Christopher Glen
“Any more information ? Co-morbidities ? Was he obese ?”
Exactly. For all we know obesity was a factor.
But as is, it’s being used to whip up hysteria

The traffic lights that you see on the roads is hysteria because If everyone gave way to others then we would not need them.
The cops are a hysteria because if no one committed crimes we wouldn't need them.
Doctors are hysteria because if everyone stayed healthy we wouldn't need them.
The problem is that people think sensible advice is hysteria and get hysterical!!!
Mickelicious
Including knockers-in-a-twist reactions to medical advice?

Sad and regrettable, COVID - 19 knows NO age limit, NO borders, and has NO mercy, Young and old were consumed by it's savage infections, people are dying in all shapes and forms.
If any one thinks he or she is immuned !! then I say more power to you.

What has his weight got to do with it? So what if he was overweight, he was still a human being worthy of compassion and respect. What the hell is wrong with you people?
Christopher Glen
The news I’m hearing circulating is he had cancer.
May condolences to his family. But it doesn’t change the fact that for the majority of us, our chances of catching the virus are small.
The media wants us to panic. I won’t
Christopher Glen

Wash hands, be hygienic. This is sensible advice.
The effectiveness of masks is still dubious. I follow cultural norms, at that alone. (Trains, shops etc).
Staying home indefinitely, depriving ourselves of vitamin D? That is hysteria. And stupid.

Actually, all breakdowns that I have seen yet indicate that age is by far the biggest factor. There are almost no deaths among young people, and every time I was able to find details about a death involving people in their 20s or younger, they had huge other health problems. Hence my question if we know something about co-morbidities here.
memoryfix
Obesity is an underlying issue, if he was obese - or if he had anything to suggest co-morbidity.
Remember, age itself doesn’t necessarily make you more vulnerable. It’s just that elderly are more like to have the other health issues than young people.
But a healthy 80-year-old gets it, and a 25-year-old with other factors gets it, maybe the 80-year-old beats it easier, I don’t know. Maybe depends on his energy level too.

Readers, no information about the man has been released by Victorian authorities or by the man's family. Anything you read "in some Australian articles" is just conjecture, which is best avoided.

I agree, but even if they are healthy, older people have a weaker immune system, so all other things being equal, they are still more at risk. The graphs about age/death regarding Corona really speak for themselves.

Staying safe is neither hysterical nor stupid, it protects not only you, but others, from your stupidity!!!

You're welcome to seal yourself in your home. I’m going to get on with life, while sanitizing and cleaning my hands.

Here is a snapshot from Sweden. OK, it is just the perspective from one hospital, but a refreshing change from the usual drone of Corona scare in the media:

A sign saying “My hands are sanitized, the rest of me is not” might be helpful!

My condolences to the family.
Perspective however is needed.
Just because one young person died that doesn't mean you are going to die, it just means that were extremely extremely unlucky,
that is whats lost on most people.

I had the same feeling; as if they wanted the young to start panicking.
Anyway, elsewhere I found the following:
Keeping your vitamin D levels high is the smartest and evidenced-backed way to protect yourself.

"A man in his 20s has become the youngest person to die of the coronavirus in Australia." -- article
Folks, be very wary of the weasel wording that news agencies are using when reporting on virus-related stories. A person dying of the coronavirus is different than a person dying from the coronavirus.
Dying of the coronavirus is a dog whistle that other factors (mitigating health issues, alcohol poisoning, motorcycle accident, etc.) were found to be the actual cause of death and the coronavirus was found in the person postmortem.
