Vancouver has a quite diverse population.

Say no to thugs.

Statistically, you are much more likely to be shot in Canada than receive a vaccine shot in Japan.

Some of the names of the gangs in British Columbia reflect the ethnic origin of the gang members. Lotus Triads, Punjabi Mafia, United Nations among others.

"There is zero indication on this article that immigrants were involved."

The victim was Karman Singh Grewal, a member of the United Nations gang.

While I agree that not all immigrants to Canada are law breakers, British Columbia has long had a problem of gangs formed on the lines of ethnicities. Some of these gangs like Punjabi Mafia, Red Scorpions, Lotus Triads were made up of Canada's most wanted gangsters who have now attained legendary status among some communities.

People are killed everyday in gang related violence throughout the world. Why is this story so special?

The world seems to be going crazy in unison!

Vancouver is also the anti-Asian hate crime capital of North America, according to an article this week in Bloomberg, citing statistics. The city, once the envy of the world, is quickly turning into a sleazy dangerous dystopia (albiet one with gorgeous nature). My family and friends (who no longer live there) inevitably bring this up in their recent conversations. It is a divided and profoundly sad place these days.

Yup! its the reason I moved to Japan. Too bad, used to be great place to live when I was kid.

Poor security for an international airport!

No worries, the Mounties always get their man!

But shootings in shopping malls and airport terminals make Vancouver sound like Kenya or Sicily. Oh Canada!

Poor security for an international airport!

Thinking about all the airports I had been through in the years before the Pandemic, departure areas are usually not well guarded. Just about anybody can pull up in a car, park, get out and walk over to the baggage carousels. The security is generally further back. Shanghai Pudong has some security features between the exit doors and the baggage carousels but you could still walk in from the parking structure, pop someone and flee.

Or any city in the US :/

As per social media chatter this was a setup. These gangs involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict often arrange meetings in airports since it is considered a safe and neutral territory where no one would think of carrying out a hit job.

United Nations has been involved in a turf war with rival Brother Keepers gang and this killing was a reprisal for last month's slaying of Harpreet Singh Dhaliwal of the Brothers Keepers.

Nooo! Canada! America looks to you like a quiet older, more civilized brother whose problems, I as an American, am discovering for the first time here. We also have many ethnicities here but the largest one, our large community of indigenously derived Mexican people whose antecedents came here to escape bad behavior are some of the most civilized people in Norte America. We really have trouble with only one of our ethnic groups who, as history suggests, cannot really get along with anyone, as the histories of their derivative Indo-European cultures will strongly attest. Oh Canada, the backpack flag of Americans everywhere...what has happened to my delusion of you...?
