This raises a curious question for me: is China not a gun society?

"Wednesday was also the day that Zheng Minsheng, 42, was executed in neighboring Fujian province for the March 23 murders of eight children outside their elementary school as they waited with their parents for classes to start."

They don't waste any time.

This is tragic, and very shocking that it's the third time in a month. I hope the kids pull through (security guard too, of course).

Tessa: "This raises a curious question for me: is China not a gun society?"

I hope you're not trying to turn this into an issue of gun control.

No, China bans all handguns. Murderers must do their killing by knife. We're lucky that no one in this incident died, although it obviously happen. If it had been a "classic" shooting like in the US, you'd have a lot more fatalities. That said, I don't see how this has anything to do with guns. These crimes have occurred since the before written history. They just only get international coverage these days, thanks to the internet.

Out of a billion people, it's quite surprising that there are only a few dozen stab-everyone-in-sight sprees a year. Most people off themselves, starve on the streets, or end up in institutions.

Admirably done.

Yes, we could learn a thing or two.

This is sik. For once I fully support China's tendency to be trigger-happy with the death penalty.

China is a totalitarian dicatorship. Under such regimes you will never see the populace allowed to be armed as it would pose a threat to the ruling regime.

"suffering from mental illness"

I'll bet if this guy had eaten donuts at least once a week, he wouldn't have done this.

That is pretty hard to accept as being normal, but then those that kill children will not go to jail due to their mental matters.

This is an example why guns control should be implemented. Although tragic, a "knife" attach is less tragic than a gun shooting spree.
