it was unclear if he committed suicide or died by accident.

died by accident? Did he pull the pin on a grenade and hold it too long?

white, black, red, yellow. evil knows no bounds. RIP all the victims of this terrible incident. whether it happens in poor, war-torn countries, or in wealthy, flourishing countries, the result is the same. extremism, at either end of the political or religious spectrum ultimately causes death.

man...Europe is crazy!

Cold-blooded executions of children in Norway,week-long riots in Great Britain and now mass murder and explosions in Belgium. It isn't really the Europe which my professors used to wax about .

Europe needs not just gun control but grenade control!

So where's the criticism of the Belgian keystones, sat in the police station eating doughnuts while this guy goes on the rampage?

Oh, I forgot. It's only Japanese cops who are incompetent. Ain't we white folk superior?

And who the heck gave three thumbs down to Superlib for his RIP comment? Heck, his politics may be right-wing looneyist, but the guy's only expressing a bit of humanity.

Terrible terrible news and my heart goes out to the victims families and particularly their parents, what a truly horrible thing to happen right before Christmas.

news like this is beyond disturbing....

Interior Ministry official Peter Mertens said the attack did not involve terrorism but did not explain why he thought that.

Job security.

How does someone get hand grenades in Belgium? Black market from Kosovo?

If only all the shoppers had been armed with grenades, this never would have happened.

It is comforting to see the last third of the article is spent convincing the reader this could happen anywhere in Europe. It's not all terrorism in the name of religion. There is lots of terrorism done in the name of nationalism and even racial purity.

There is no defense against suicidal people. In addition, banning will only discourage the casual enthusiast. Anyone sufficiently determined can build civilian weaponry, given time and tools and a little money. Now, that's not to contend against banning reducing overall violence, it does --but it cannot not completely eliminate the danger, pretending so for the sake of argument is dishonest and a red herring.

" The scale of the bloodshed, the military weapons used, and the fact that the robberies often involved relatively small amounts of money sparked suspicions that right-wing terrorists may have been behind the attacks. "

Typical mainstream media spin. In fact, looking at the scale of the bloodshed and the fact it was at a Christmas market would suggest that islamist extremist were involved. The fact is, at this point we do not know either, so I find it irresponsible that the biased media are already assigning blame. Not surprising though.

The above quote clearly refers to the “mad killers of Brabant”. Too busy trying to shoehorn evil Islamists and bad media that you didn't bother reading... not surprising though.

Sadly, with their Euro money losing its purchasing power there is only going to be more of these attacks on people native Belgians don't want there.

Looks like the killer was inspired by the Christmas Day Bomber of Times Square infamy. Just a guess.

One more victim to that list. He murdered a woman in his apartment before doing the rest. A real lunatic, good that he is dead. RIP to all the innocent. Liege is already in bad state and only a small town, they really didn't deserve such atrocities.

willib,

"The fact is, at this point we do not know either, so I find it irresponsible that the biased media are already assigning blame. "

Heh, only the sentence before you're already saying it looks like the actions of an islamic terrorist?

The only bias here is your own, once again nothing more than naked obsession about Islam.

Whilst their radical elements vomit up some horrific violence for sure, claiming as you have that spraying a crowd of shoppers is a trait reserved by Islamic extremists just shows how detached from reality you truly are.
