Republicans simply can't resist meddling in other countries' affairs.

Wrong again. "Some Republicans", don't group all of them into the same group, please. The US should help the Venezuelan people, but keep their mouth shut about the politics there. A Senator on the border isn't helping.

Of the three countries you listed, only one is threatening to bomb Venezuela, the other two just want to do business without killing anybody.

US never said it would bomb Venezuela. Do you have a reputable link to prove that?

China and Russia have economic ties to the old President and his cronies, so they have little choice. Also, Cuba likes that Venezuala bought $440M barrels of oil from other countries. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-venezuela-oil-imports-exclusive/exclusive-as-venezuelans-suffer-maduro-buys-foreign-oil-to-subsidize-cuba-idUSKCN1IG1TO

Doesn't it seem odd that an oil producing country has to buy oil from other countries (Russia)? Mismanagement is why.

The purchases came as Venezuela’s crude production hit a 33-year low in the first quarter - down 28 percent in 12 months. Its refineries are operating at a third of capacity, and its workers are resigning by the thousands.

Let's look at this - Russia supports the old President because he's buying $B of oil from Russia.

China supports the old President because Venezuela owes China money.

Cuba supports Venezuela because they are politically tied to Russia together and Cuba wants cheap oil.

At least we can see that the entire government of Venezuela, the customs officials and border guards are still loyal to President Maduro.

There are many things that are responsible for loyalty. Getting a guaranteed food ration might just be one of them.

Rubio is a republican. He is meddling in a foreign country's affairs. Republicans simply can't resist meddling in other countries' affairs.

LBJ was one of my favorite Republicans. So were Wilson, Roosevelt and Truman.

Being Marco Rubio

Its funny how yelling behind the safe confines of your home makes you feel powerful. Little Marko needs to go to Venezuela and set an example of what brave leadership should do. I'll try not to hold my breath.

Government controlling the means of distribution of goods to people? Sounds like socialism is OK when it fits into the bellicose objectives of some capitalists.

Like the message, completely distrust the messenger.

Just how much poking and prodding from the US must the Venezuelans endure?

Must Latin America endure?

Rubio is no better than Maduro.

@rawbeer Just like it's OK for the US to

In your zeal to defend Russia, you ignored this in my post:

@PT NB I am NOT defending the US actions in Venezuela, so please don't use 'the west is worse' line of defense. I am opposed to any and all governments, including the US, meddling in other nation's affairs.

@rawbeeActually, I suspect the Russian military have greater support from the citizens of host countries that the US military has.

And I suspect they don't. I can't imagine many citizens of any country feeling very supportive of any invading military, be that military US, Russian, Chinese, Israeli, Turkish, Iranian etc etc.

I assume you're using the 'Russia's an invited guest, just like they are in Syria' defense, so you're saying it's OK for them to be there.

Just like it's OK for the US to have its military in Japan, Korea, and dozens of other countries. Actually, I suspect the Russian military have greater support from the citizens of host countries that the US military has.

BTW, I wonder how many times the US has urged or warned israel to allow the entry of aid to Palestine.

@joeintokyo Like a broken record.

Thank you for listening.

any country that the Maduro government invites in is welcome and legit under international law.

I assume you're using the 'Russia's an invited guest, just like they are in Syria' defense, so you're saying it's OK for them to be there. Syria, Venezuela - something about greater control of oil perhaps?

How many divisions does the Rube command? The GOP seem to be clutching desperately at foreign policy straws to distract from the fact that their deranged Cap'n Bonespurs is steering full steam ahead toward the iceberg.

And looking at the convictions and indictments of the Mueller investigation, it seems they can't resist getting others to meddle in their own country's affairs as well.

It's amazing that the Republicans are so willing to let it go that the Trump team invited in the Russians and got them to directly help in an election. These people care more about power than they do about their country. Anyone who respects the democratic system should be horrified by the actions of the Trump campaign team, yet the right is giving them a complete pass, and not pressing on any of this issues. It's treasonous.

Agreed. It's repugnant.

And Chip Star, this is not simply a GOP problem. Dick Durbin and Kirsten Gillibrand fully back Trump's moves. Pelosi and Biden have both voiced support of Guaido. They may not be calling for armed intervention quite yet but they're clearly part of our nation's long bipartisan consensus of meddling in foreign nations' affairs.

Agreed. It's repugnant all around.

Marcobot Rubio heading up the US's latest effort to meddle in Latin American affairs? God help us. Empires looking to bleed nations dry of their resources and gain access to their markets--same as it ever was. And just b/c Russia opposes it doesn't make us right.

US, Russia, China: let Venezuelans decide for themselves.

@burnigbsuh At least we can see that the entire government of Venezuela,

Entire? 100%? Curious where you got that info. I've read some in the Venezuelan military (part of the 'government' after all) oppose Putin's puppet Maduro.

But it's good to read that you oppose states meddling in other state's affairs.
