Philippines getting smarter and opposing the thief that has stolen its territory and blocks its resupply of bases in Philippine territory. Strength in numbers. Standing up for your rights against those who would trample them. China has proven it is no friend to Philippines, it is a rotten thief. The US is a friend who supports the rights and territoies of the Philippines.

Actions speak louder than words. China's actions betray its real intentions to take and to dominate. The US left when asked to and returned when asked to. China is asked to leave Philippines territory and does not leave, but digs in and becomes a thief. The difference between the US and China in the region is stark and undeniable. US=friend and partner. China=enemy and belligerent. The facts are there for all to see. Some refuse to open their eyes and remain slaves to China and its desire to rule all. I could name a few here but choose not to for fear of deletion of my post.

Marcos said his government has discussed with them the importance of the expanded U.S. access and "why it will actually be good for their provinces."

Kaching!

And for Bong Bong's bank balance no doubt.

As expected just like his father collaborate and collectively exploit under the cover of "joint security" etc (look up the background on Ferdinand Marcos to see, it's much more than even a conspiracy theorist could conjure).

You seem not to be fond of history books. If you're too lazy to read you can always educate yourself in 5 minutes if you want. "Why America's Military Must Be Strong"

Also, having a US base in Mindanao will be right smack in the middle of the Islamic extremists' Abu Sayyaf territory.

The Philippines can economically benefit from US military and personnel spending like Subic Bay used to do.

Sure it will be great for the Filippino people the US military will dump and pollute as they always do, i.e. contaminate the drinking water with jet antifreeze not to mention further destablize the region https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/03/21/red-hill-families-drank-antifreeze-fuel-contaminated-water-doh/

Forward operating bases in a country where the people have a higher opinion of the United States than US citizens themselves have of their own government? Interesting idea.

The Philippines is now a a fully paid up vassal state of the US again. How did that work out last time?

The US military got a lot of internal problems,it need to deal with , before sending American overseas, such as it poor handling of sexual assault, that an open war on women service members, before these issue spill over in foreign bases

The old cold war insults continue to fly. If your a friend or ally of the US your a vassal with no self determination. It was complete rubbish back then and is still garbage. If you cant come up with any facts, fall back on decades old dogma. It didnt work for the USSR but hey maybe it will work on today's generation.

Once again, any excuse to try and say this poster wants America to disengage and return to being isolationist, which is what it was before it became a superpower. Just say it, you want the US to turn turtle and pull its head into its shell and get left behind in a modern world where engaging with everyone is essential.

I still have my yellow "People Power" T-shirts from the uprising that tossed his old man out :) They were kind of tight on me back then but back then I looked good in a tight T-shirt. Today not so much :/

Good on you, Philippines. Anything the illegal Chinese outposts do other than observe should be met with gunfire.

The last time the Philippine Senate voted not to renew the exorbitantly priced US base leases and expel US forces from their land. Vassals do not have the power to defy their masters. But it looks to me at least that the Philippines, seeing their islands gobbled up by the Chinese like the dots in a PacMan game are maybe regretting having sent US forces packing.
