Don't be fooled by the "R" next to his name, folks.

Waiting for all the Trump supporters here to come to his defense....

After calling him a sell-out, RINO, and a Loser every other day....

12 ( +19 / -7 )

This guy is hated by the Democrats, Independents as well as Trump and his MAGA supporters! Trump has bashed him openly and even used offensive swear words to describe him! He won’t be the majority leader in the senate if the Republicans take control of the senate this year as his days are numbered!

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Yeah, he probably misspoke - but not because he "left out a word", but because in his mind he separates African Americans and (white) Americans. Typical of someone who can't identify with, understand, or has no experience interacting with, minority groups.

Kind of like how your racist uncle refers to any non-white group as "those people". Sigh.

That kind of othering definitely has tinges of racism, and is problematic in particular for someone who is supposed to represent ALL his constituents, equally.

had the R against his name for the last 50yrs, oh hes an R alright

He probably thinks usa is the only country in America also.

Racial slurr is frowned apon as it should be .

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

He may well have let slip that he views African-Americans as somewhat distinct from white Americans...well, that's just the reality of the so-called melting pot in the US, where you have a lot of groups of different people who identify with their own and view different 'outsiders' as 'others.'

Beating up McConnell over his slip won't solve anything and just inflames things more, and is emblematic of why better relations can't be established in the US.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Yeah, he probably misspoke - but not because he "left out a word", but because in his mind he separates African Americans and (white) Americans.

That doesn't even make sense. If he was comparing to white Americans the statement would be wrong.

I don't know this guy, but when you get hammered for making a correct statement something is wrong with the world.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Well, I just don't get it....

Every day the Trump crowd here shows their hate for McConnell - echoing what their Dear Leader says; "He's a RINO, a Loser, a hack"....

McConnel has minced no words about Trump; Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell gave a speech excoriating the former president for a "disgraceful dereliction of duty" and said he holds him responsible for "provoking" the Jan. 6 siege of the Capitol.

Yet, Mitch makes a gaffe, and here they are defending him...

Flip-flop, flip-flop....

I guess tomorrow he goes back to being a Satan-worshipper...

For some land of the free. Home of the slave.

Really, there are only Americans and it seems because of the short time of the country's history, Americans seem to need to identify with their cultural and ethnic roots.

Not just America.

The post the other day on MLK republican supporters posted there is only one race, the human race but the country has a long way to go before becoming colourblind.

Not Just America, but that will never happen anywhere.

In my own country, people don't refer to themselves with those subdivision labels. Black-Brits, Asian-Brits, White-Brits.

In Germany, Austrian and Sweden they do.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Amazing - such strong support and defense today of a guy that Trump literally hates - and that the Trump crowd here diss every chance they get....

Tomorrow they'll be professing that Liz Cheney and Adam Kitzinger are just misunderstood...

LOL....

"The term African-American has crept steadily into the nation’s vocabulary since 1988, when the Rev. Jesse Jackson held a news conference to urge Americans to use it to refer to blacks."

This was after Afro-American had some popularity in the 1970s "blaxpoitation" movie period. Seems in the last 5 years or so the preferred term is shifting towards black, and more recently Black (with the capital B stylage).

Now you know.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

As much as I hold no love for McConnell or the Republican stance on voting rights, this is an unnecessarily sensational, misleading headline. There's a huge difference between contrasting "black" voters vs "Americans" (which is NOT what happened) and contrasting "African American voters" vs. "Americans".

I'd agree that if he said "black" vs American it would imply that black voters aren't American, but that implication is strongly undercut when he actually said "African American" and therefore explicitly called them American.

This was a dumb thing to say and could have been worded better, but I don't think this is half as bad as people seem to be implying.

Really ?? - With the exceptions @zichi 12:45pm of terms like “Black Irish”; whether they be descendants of survivors of the defeated Spanish Armada settling in Ireland (possessing dark feature, skin and/or hair) or, descendants of Vikings (although fair-haired & skinned, the term came from the aggressors’ previous intentions & incursions). In the Americas, from Nova Scotia across Canada and south to the West Indies & the Caribbean , many of mixed European-Indigenous (Native American) heritage, possessing darker features, proudly continue using the term “Black Irish” or “Black Dutch”. Can’t account for how, whether in a proud or derogatory fashion, those of ‘you from across the pond’ may continue to use these terms in the present age:

@zichi 12:45 pm: “In my own country, people don't refer to themselves with those subdivision labels. Black-Brits, Asian-Brits, White-Brits.”

I am pleased to inform you that federal and state elections are different.

Either our system of voting is fair or it is not. Can't straddle the middle

Biden also didn't "get over the finish line". He won 306 electoral votes. The same number that Trump won in 2016, that he described as a landslide.

Ok, you believe that that's fine and I will submit to you that when the GOP wins back the House, I think they will try and implement new voting laws to make it easier to vote and very difficult to cheat.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Good ol boy Mitch is just speaking from the heart (of a racist) Maybe he'll tell the world one day how those blacks can become regular Americans like himself. Many are just itching to know.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Amazing - such strong support and defense today of a guy that Trump literally hates - and that the Trump crowd here diss every chance they get....

Naw, conservatives are just amused at how long and far the left want to take this, they say on the one hand that the country is great and that all minorities voted freely and fairly to get Biden over the finish and then from the other side of their mouths they say because Abrams didn't win that the country is racist and laws need to be changed in order for make our elections free and fair from racism, so which is it? Can't have both!

"Can't have both!" Boy, is that ever true....

Your archive is full of posts hating on McConnell - now you and the Trump crew are defending him and showing him the love....even when he said Trump was guilty of "dereliction of duty" and Trump called him a "stone cold loser"....

You need to follow your own advice...

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Your archive is full of posts hating on McConnell -

I do, but I appreciate what he has done for the conservative cause and I thank the late Harry Reid as well for blowing up the Senate filibuster.

You need to follow your own advice...

I do.

Either our system of voting is fair or it is not. Can't straddle the middle

I'm pleased to hear that you agree that the Federal government should oversee elections, as that it the only way to guarantee uniform standards and therefore fairness.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

whops, the problem with racist people is that they surround themselves with their peers, so eventually they forget to check what they say and they spill the beans openly without meaning it.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Ok, you believe that that's fine

It's not a matter of belief. It's the truth.

and I will submit to you that when the GOP wins back the House, I think they will try and implement new voting laws to make it easier to vote and very difficult to cheat.

Such laws already exist.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

I'm pleased to hear that you agree that the Federal government should oversee elections, as that it the only way to guarantee uniform standards and therefore fairness.

As long as conservatives are allowed to participate in the fairness process, why not? Be a great thing.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

It's not a matter of belief. It's the truth.

Ok, that's what you think, I don't.

Such laws already exist.

Then why do Dems oppose voter ID? But these same people want me to have a vaxxed ID and want me to register my guns....

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

As long as conservatives are allowed to participate in the fairness process, why not? Be a great thing.

Good! So we agree that the Federal government should oversee election standards, not states, and that conservatives should be allowed to vote. We agree!

Thank you for understanding that voting rights should be federally ensured and enforced and that the states should not be able to make up their own election rules.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Good! So we agree that the Federal government should oversee election standards, not states, and that conservatives should be allowed to vote. We agree!

I never said the Federal Government, but both parties can send minders and monitor for their respective sides. One day and one day one only, no overlapping days or delayed counting

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Ok, that's what you think, I don't.

You don't think that Joe Biden won 306 electoral votes? Despite the fact that it was confirmed over and over again?

Then why do Dems oppose voter ID? But these same people want me to have a vaxxed ID and want me to register my guns....

You have a right to vote, whether you have ID or not. But if you want ID, a Vax ID works. It's free, after all. Only people who can prove they've been vaxxed can vote? I can get on board with that.

See? We're coming together!

0 ( +3 / -3 )

You have a right to vote, whether you have ID or not.

Then don't bother us on anything else that requires and ID.

See? We're coming together!

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

No, I will. You don't have a right to go to a restaurant. You don't have a right to travel. You don't have a right to a lot of things. You have privileges that you can access if you do the right thing.

But you do have a right to vote.

@Blacklabel

Ducking the issue, I see.

The origin of the term "Black American" is not the point of the article. It's whether or not Black Americans actually qualify for consideration as being equal to other Americans, as you well know.

Old Mitchy boy accidentally let slip what he, and the majority of the New Republican Party (i.e. White America Party... go on, at least have the balls to call yourselves what you are) believe.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

I understand the left lost on nuking the filibuster and the voting rights bill, they should have known that no one was going to buy into that crap and pass it.

You don't have a right to go to a restaurant.

Then you don't have the right to vote, but anyway, after November, you just have to deal with the incoming changes on that.

Exactly.

I agree. I am not a fan of Mitch, but let’s get real here. Sometimes people misspeak.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Maybe Biden can do better for the nation once the House is back in the GOP hands, then he can move to the center, that would be a great thing would it not?

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

African American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans,” McConnell said.

The comment implied that Black voters are somehow not American

Huh?

He called them African Americans. Seems he simply missed an “other” before the second “Americans”.

criticise him for a grammatical mistake but Sheez don’t take it too far.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Maybe he's scared of the PC crowd, some don't like to be called Blacks and some don't or want to be referred to as African-American, so Mitch is right to be cautious. He doesn't want to offend anyone, that is respect.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

My point is...I don't know if he's racist, but he sure doesn't care about a strong America, which is what R's proclaim to support. In America we refer to his type as "RINO" or Republican in Name Only.

All that being said, upon reading his statement closely, you'll only be offended if you're looking to be offended. Slow news day.
