Trump calls for delay in G-7 meeting; seeks expansion with Russia, S Korea, Australia, India

She just revealed her true nature and where she stands regarding the US and how she views the world. While she calls for globalization and global unity she has now shown that unless she and Germany were in "control", she will not participate as a part of EU or the G7. Even is she were to retire soon, she and her prospective leader could have attended. She to give perspective and guidance for that prospect to meet and learn how G7 works.

Trump on the other hand is willing to meet with and befriend or confront all world leaders to determine the kind of relationship he and the USA could, would and should establish with the leaders as well as the people of each nation or country. Such was the case with N Korea, Russia, China and the Saudis. He went and met with a set perspective and purpose to communicate and understand exactly what the leader's and that country's positions were in relating to and working with the USA and himself.

If Merkel can get the same resuts from her represntative, that may work out. But for the rest of thr world leaders attending, they will have doubt as to where she really stands and what they can expect from Germany.

Yeah, Trump went and met the leaders of NK, Russia, China and Saudi Arabia and even made 'friends' with them. Look at the situation now! NK is building more weapons, Putin is only getting stronger, Xi and Trump have managed to start a trade war and probably a new cold war, and the Saudis assassinate a reporter who was a US citizen. Probably all because they know Trump is their 'buddy' and won't do anything. Impressive results.....not. No wonder Merkel can't stand the thought of meeting Trump again. Who can blame her?

And he said he plans to invite Russia, Australia, South Korea and India as he again advocated for the group's expansion.

Putin obviously hacked the IRS and has 20 years of Trump's tax returns showing all those Russian oligarch loans that Don Jr and Eric bragged about...

Your as much out of date as the German chancellor Merkel. The new age day will be Germany split again and back under Russian control as the new Soviet Union emerges. For once the Don is ahead of the game.

This whole G-7 thing is just a propaganda ploy by Trump to make everyone think everything is back to normal and there is nothing to worry about. I hope they all refuse.

Trump's motives are transparent. He wants them to help him look presidential, after he treated them like the enemy for three and a half years. Kicking the tawdry oaf to the curb is the right thing to do. He and his followers chose the America alone path. It's too late to complain about not having any friends on the journey.

That could well be. Russia is regaining its status as global power by leveraging its oil, gas and coal resources. (Burn, baby burn) It's extending its global reach via its Eurasian Economic Union while also increasing involvements in South American and African nations. It's also expanding its agricultural base, able to feed more through its 'agrarian' efforts. But most importantly, Russia has a nuclear arsenal equivalent to, perhaps greater than America's. And by getting involved militarily in Syria and elsewhere in MENA is showing its willingness to return to its days as a global power.

China of course is expanding its global reach through its Belt and Road and other programs.

The role of the US as a global power has been slipping; Trump's accelerating that. Curious which of the global powers, China or Russia, he is more personally invested in. Curious, too, which of the global 'elite' factions he's most closely connected to.

Hey, maybe he could twitter a new name for this expanded group, something original, such as erm... G-15 or something?

Maybe when Russia returns Crimea back to Ukraine we can talk about them returning to the "group".

I am sure our great President Trump is happy too. Our great President Trump is an absolute certain for re-election and we can hold the G7 meeting next year without merkel.

Trump sees the obvious: in its present format G7 lost its raison d'etre at least a decade ago, may be two. It degenerated into empty pompous shows with no real substance. Can anybody here without consulting Google recall any really important decisions made at the previous G7, or before it? Such decisions are made not with a bunch of satellites, but at meetings with leaders of other independent powers that have their own interests. It's not so pleasant as the sweet blah-blah at G7, but real decisions are made in this way. That's why G20 is a way much more important then G7.

It works much better in the other way. Here it is: the U.S. interferes in Russian internal affairs and elections, it staged the illegal coup d'etat in Ukraine and supports the criminal regime there that wages a genocide war against its own populace, the U.S. supports jihadist gangs in Syria that gas innocent people to get even more funding, it sends nuclear subs and bombers directly to Russian borders (just a couple of days ago 2 B-1 bombers from Ellsworth AFB barged into the airspace over the Black Sea). And don't forget about Kosovo, Iraq, Adghanistan, Libya.

Before opening its mouth about Crimea this "group" should return Kosovo to Serbia first.

Trump wanted to bring in some of the country's traditional allies and those impacted by the coronavirus to discuss the future of China.

But Trump wasn't president during the 2016 election. This must have been what Obama meant when he told Putin he would have more 'flexibility' after his re-election. Instead of preventing Putin from interfering in the election his FBI was on a wild goose chase trying to frame the Trump campaign for "collusion".

What a waste of good time. G7 that is not going to be a meeting if trumpet is present.
