Don't go surfing in Mexico where there’s turf wars between gangs

You are either dumb or suicidal wanting to go into Mexico

Mexico is an incredibly dangerous place where sadly there is very little value on human lives. The murder rate is astronomical. Certainly it is never a safe place for foreign tourists to visit : they are just walking ATMs to the locals.

Rest in Peace to these 3 innocent surfers.

Scarily, the next FIFA world cup will see Mexico host games. Shocking choice - very unsafe for the foreign foitball fans. Huge money must have changed hands under the table.

Camped along that stretch of beach back in the 70s. Truly idyllic, you could walk out into the surf and dig up clams for dinner with your fingers. Beautiful country, Mexico.

Sadly, it’s not like that anymore for most of the country.

Growing up in SoCal, I have heard stories that made me never want to go. One family friend found a decapitated head on the beach. A group of college buddies drove down to drink in Tijuana and ended up having drugs planted on them by police and put behind bars. Police let them go the next morning but cleaned out their wallets in the process.

Americans always seem to forget that the per capita homicide rate is wayyyy higher in some US cities. Frankly, I'd be more worried about travelling to Chicago than Mexico City.

Sadly where's as maybe 30 years ago it was possible to travel freely around Mexico, only someone with a death wish would do it not

66 million overseas visitors to Mexico in 2022.

11 million from USA.

6^th most visited country in the world.

There are stats to disprove all the fear mongers on this forum.

Some areas of all nations are dangerous {exclude Japan }

How many homicides in USA in ONE YEAR ?

Hand wringing and homilies with a dose of prejudice wont help anyone.

Japan - 0.2 murders per 100,000 people (2022)

Australia - 0.8 murders/100,000

UK - 1 murder/100,000

USA - 6.4 murders/100,000

Mexico - 26.1 murders per 100,000

No matter which way you look at it, the murder rate (and that is just the known murder rate) in Mexico is shocking (unless one was from other more insanely dangerous places like Jamaica or South Africa). And they do not spare tourists, as this tragedy shows.

Not "fearmongering". Facts.

Yes but the average in Mexico is 4x higher than the US. Yeah, if you went to the absolute worst part of Chicago, it might be worse than the best part of Tijuana, but you would have no reason to do that.
