Mexican forces kill Knights Templar drug cartel leader

Mexican security forces killed a leader of the Knights Templar drug cartel on Monday, three weeks after the gang's top chief was gunned down, an official told AFP.

Enrique "Kike" Plancarte was killed in the state of Queretaro in central Mexico, the government official said on condition of anonymity.

The official declined to give more details.

Plancarte was considered one of the top three leaders of the Knights Templar gang, which is based in the western state of Michoacan and has been under pressure from federal forces and vigilante militias for several months.

His death comes after Knights Templar founder Nazario Moreno, alias "El Chayo," was killed by troops in Michoacan on March 9.

Moreno had been mistakenly reported killed more than three years ago, leaving fellow leader Servando "La Tuta" Gomez as the public face of the cartel.

Gomez, a former school teacher, remains at large.

What!? There can't be a Knights Templar drug cartel! Because there's already a Knights Templar group not remotely about gang crud, or Mexico, without ties to Spain! That doesn't make any sense! They should stick with their own cultures!

Mexico is a corrupt country has been that way for years and will never change. From the leadership all the way down to a peasant farmer its a way of nomadic life.

It was the original Knights Templar that DIRECTLY CAUSED the tragedy of what the world calls 9/11. Look it up.

personally i am interested in knowing who these vigilante militia are? well armed well trained in counter- insurgency- they are the ones actually making the shots

the police take the credit- yet they never complain- strange- sounds like someone got a lot of money- or a lot of external army personnel - quickly

The cartel have dishonored the name of the Knights Templar. The penalty is just, considering the human misery they are causing.

Good news indeed, and funny how I learned this in "Japan Today" and not some local news.

They should keep killing all cartel members... they make Mexico an unsafe country. Mexico is a country rich in history, culture and business. Let the people of Mexico thrive once more with out the LACRA....
