Mexico has a highly concentrated economy in which one or two firms control a sector such as cement, tortillas, beer or television programming. They forgot the drug trade, but at least the other disputes have not started beheadings and drive-by shootings...

Where are all of the activist who attack on the rich and say that they are unfairly rigging the system. Slim has so much money, yet Mexico is such a poor place. Where are all of the protests demanding that they should "give" to help make things fairer for everyone. This guy could easily payback the state of California for all of the illegal alien costs his countrymen have caused and get them out of their budget crisis.

I think Gates has given away something like $30 billion to charities since 2000. He gives away about 60% of his income every year. Take all of that into account and he's still #1 in my book.

Buffet plans to give 99 percent of wealth, Gates also given away 30 billion. Buffet and Gates,are most generous people of earth.

How about others ,who are rich??? The rich can't take their wealth with them to heaven.

The more generous rich are,the better for all. The more greedy the rich are,the poorer all get.

Buffet and Gates also greedy,but they balance with high generousity. Generousity by all,is the way to better life for all. The Generousity,does not mean endangering the source of generousity giver,which is anyone and high care for nature's abundance.

That kind of treatment is reserved for American capitalists who made their money legitimately through investment. Demonstrating the ability to succeed in the U.S runs counter to the idea that the U.S is a virtual caste system where hope and social mobility are nonexistent, can't have that.

@TheQuestion: You hit it on the head. Even the super rich in the US will give, but I have not seen where Mr. Slim has donated that much wealth, with all of the poverty in Mexico.

At least Gates made his moolah on something he and his company developed. Slim's fortune was made with US technology - Motorola invented cell phone technology.

You dont solve poverty by throwing cash at it. The poor just end up poor again. You solve poverty by creating jobs which lead to education and vice-versa. I am sure Slims companies employ thousands of people.

Just noting the hypocrisy of others. Slim, Gates, and Buffett all made their fortunes but some people will gripe and demonize the two latter for not sharing their hard won money while giving Slim a free pass. I personally don't think they are obligated to donate a single red cent and the fact that they have given billions of their own money is a wonderful act of charity.

Nonsense. I hope Slim makes mountains of cash, and that his example persuades the millions of his fellow Mexicans who have inundated my country that hard work can also pay off in Mexico.
