They can do that, but Google has some of the deepest pockets in the planet As of December 31, 2024, Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, reported total assets amounting to $450.26 billion. This represents an increase from $402.39 billion in 2023.

Good luck with that.

Should all international norms, such as the metric system, be discarded for each country's own measurement system?

Mexico and other nations could simply ban Google Maps unless they restore the name Gulf of Mexic. No big loss. There are other similar websites such as ArcGIS available.

They could, but they won't do that.

Trump is all about "make work" over dumb things. Renaming Denali to Mtn McKinley (a gold prospector called it that). Denali as it is known by the natives with for centuries before.

It will always be the Gulf of Mexico to me - well, for at least 20+ more yrs.

The "Gulf of America" just sounds stupid ... but since everyone in north and sound America are technically Americans, some MAGA people may claim this to be more "inclusive". Only MAGA non-logic makes this rational.

Lots of places have different names based on the person's viewpoint/language. In Spanish, Americans are usually called "Norteamericano" ... which seems to include Mexicans and Canadians, but it doesn't. To Mexico and other Latin American countries, it most often means someone from the USA.

I'm surprised that Trump didn't tell Google to ensure that Taiwan was listed as a country, part of "Trumpity Trump Land" too. I'd love to see Taipei, Taiwan and I'd love for Taiwan to formally change their name, removing all mention of China.

What a stupid issue. Even though the official name is "Gulf of Mexico", American and international navigators have always called it "USG" or "USGLF" meaning US Gulf.

Trump needs to explain to the American people just exactly how this is important and what benefit is gained to the U.S. that's worth spending government time and money over it.
