So you do support prolonging the war no matter how unrealistic the "we want Putin out now" is or how long it drags on. Until the last Ukrainian is the motto. Kind of contradicts the " I'm not really in favor of war in general" jingle.

I don't see a contradiction. Russia's invasion of Ukraine was entirely unjustified, and Putin's egomania prevents him from stopping it, so someone has to. That someone is Ukraine and its allies. When an invasion is entirely unjustified, and when the invading party also decides to play dirty, then it is just and proper to resist them as long as is necessary.

If the big kid at school demands your lunch money and you give it to him, do you think he'll be happy? No, he'll be back the next day and the day after that, until he is persuaded - clearly and unambiguously - that he's not getting your lunch money anymore.

Support for prolonging the Ukraine war is not " anti-war."

Support for fascists getting their goodies and people being enslaved is not pro-peace.

When you want to create enemies to start a war, or do isolate them. The easiest way is by false accusations and lies. It works because people think the media is the source of all truth.

Putin's invasion and Iran's support for terrorists is quite real.

How realistic do you really think the "we want Putin out now" is?

No-one knows, but we have seen throughout history that authoritarian regimes often fall quickly and unexpectedly, so this could easily happen to Putin too.

Kara-Murza has actually (re-)made the point recently: three days for the Romanovs, and the Soviets. I'd certainly be happy with three days for Putin.

Perhaps the next Wagner-style revolt, or palace coup will succeed. Perhaps Putin will go quietly; perhaps he will end up another Ceaușescu...

sowing chaos is the new geopolitical weapon.

So, the uptick in over the top propaganda is a pretty clear sign that when Netanyahu starts the war he is itching for with Iran, it won't be a 'regional war' the US is going to turn it into a hemispheric war.

PS, why would Russia and Iran be trying to get Americans to question the legitimacy of their elections, exacerbate the disagreements between them, doubt the honesty of their news media, I mean it's not as if America had been doing that to Iranians and Russians for a few decades...oops

We don't support prolonging the war at all. We want Putin out now.

against the backdrop of a major European land war.”

Aging Putin and the aging members of Kremlin want to re-fight WW2 to re-establish what was the Soviet Union; the Kremlin botched its chances to be taken seriously by large parts of the world after the war because of Mosow's mismanagement. Moscow messed things up after WW2 and is further messing things up today by invading sovereign nations and threatening using nukes, and noisy sword rattling from a warmongering state, which is already too large to manage effectively. 'Westerners and others that support the Moscow regime should shift to the Russian Federation, or one of Moscow's fellow totalitarian states.

Statements like this would carry more weight if they weren't coming from pro war stooges pushing for prolonging armed conflict$.

It is Putin that is "prolonging armed conflict."

He could end his illegal war of conquest and vanity today by withdrawing his invading hordes of murderers, thieves, rapists, and child abductors. But he will not.

Support for prolonging the Ukraine war is not " anti-war."

I didn't say I was anti-war. I said I was not really in favour of it in general.

However, wars will always be around because...well, the biological existence of men basically guarantees that there will never be a period without war.

And there's such a thing as fighting for a good reason, which is what Ukraine is doing. It's what the Allies did in WW2.

For instance, taking the middle east mess, I believe that both sides are in the wrong and an agreement should be arranged. Whether it ever will or not is another issue.

Whereas the Russia-Ukraine situation is 100% black and white, and Ukraine should continue to resist and fight back for as long as necessary. The countries providing Ukraine with assistance often use that phrase: "as long as necessary", because they recognise the absolute moral standards involved. Note how most countries are calling for a cessation of hostilities in the middle east, as they recognise the significant complexity of the situation.

I'm personally not really in favour of war in general, but it's an inevitable consequence of human nature, so we have to realise that it will always exist. Given the total absence of moral ambiguity about the Russia - Ukraine issue, I have no problem with Ukraine killing as many Russian soldiers as humanly possible.

The irony of a pro-Russia stooge whining about warmongers.

Pretty sure Some Dude is against Russia's invasion of Ukraine. That's the definition of anti-war.

If you want Brits to be more loyal, you shouldn't have butchered their economy and ruined their lives with 15 years of political abuse by the Tories topped off with Brexit.

Who's this "you" you speak of?

MI5 didn't tell the tories to wreck the social fabric of the country, nor did they instigate Brexit. That was the 52 per cent of idiots who voted for it based on misinformation, prejudice and short-sightedness.

MI5's remit is to keep the country safe, and given the current geopolitical situation, that's a pretty important job.

Pathetic decadent pirates.

Yes, Russia and Iran certainly are.

This propaganda all over state broadcaster the BBC today. He wants a bigger budget from a government that would rather spend less, hence the reds-under-the-bed McCarthyism. If you want Brits to be more loyal, you shouldn't have butchered their economy and ruined their lives with 15 years of political abuse by the Tories topped off with Brexit.

You can take down any regime for a few million bucks. I'm surprised bored billionaires don't take it up as a hobby. Western spooks have had more than two years to destabilise Putin's regime but haven't even dented it.

The establishment turning up he volume / beating the war drums against Iran, Russia, China for the gullible masses to lap up and support the next upcoming neocon warmongers adventure. The west needs more peacemakers in charge instead of warmongers.

The irony of a pro-Russia stooge whining about warmongers.

Amusing how an article about MI5 brings, crawling miserably out from the woodwork, the very people who are in love with the countries which MI5 seeks to defend the country from.

Everyone else is doing it too, thanks to the Spy Masters of the west.

He also said there were worrying signs that the Islamic State group is attempting a comeback, despite the collapse of its self-declared caliphate in Iraq and Syria several years ago.

It's been widely reported recently that Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the notorious leader of the CIA funded Al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's Syrian branch since 2012, is rallying his troops for a major attack in support of Israel on the Syrian Army in the north of the country. McCallum's speech appears to be foreshadowing that.

MI5 has faced criticism for its failure to stop deadly attacks, including a 2017 suicide bombing that killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

Salman Abedi, the Manchester bomber who killed 22 people and injured 1,017 more, was from an anti-Gaddafi Libyan Salafi family and was allowed by Mi5 to travel to and from Libya, where he was trained by IS and fought against the Gaddafi regime. He was evacuated from Tripoli in Libya by the Royal Navy in 2014 and allowed to return to Libya again in 2016. Mi5 recruited anti-Gaddafi Libyan Brits from the proscribed terrorist group LIFG (Libyan Islamic Fighting Group) to fight in Libya and gave them free passage. The Manchester bombing was blowback.

while about three-quarters of the plots stem from Islamic extremist ideology and a quarter from the extreme right

Terrorists gonna terrorize, terroristic entities, be they religious or extreme right offer little to reasonable people , and for those that support terroristic entities provide the possibility of being controlled by big brother that will tell them what and how to think.

Russia and Iran are the enemies on the streets of the UK. They are using criminal gangs for their dirty work. They are also using minors.

10 ( +16 / -6 )

BanthuToday  06:49 am JST

Either that, or the UK government is incompetent and the citizens are rightfully angry at the politicians who are leading the country into the abyss.

People should just knuckle under and accept the criminality from Russia and Iran? Fascinating opinion.

6 ( +15 / -9 )

Well yes, the criminal state has nothing left to lose now.
