Goes to show that President Biden’s decision to pull troops out of Afghanistan was correct.

The military is stretched and stressed and there are not enough measures to treat mental health issues.

U.S. military suicides rise 15% @japantoday:

In the past months, there have been many death rises in US:

Rise in murders,

Rise in mass killings,

Rise in spouse homicides,

now rise in military and other suicides..

This is not healthy for any nation, let alone a superpower..

Sadly, what can we expect? The military spent two decades training a generation to kill, and then when the killing’s done and they aren’t needed anymore, they get tossed back into the alien world of civilian life with little more than a pat on the rear. It’s little wonder violence - directed both outward and inward - in an epidemic among vets. When you’ve spent who knows how long living in a world where the solution to every problem is to kill it, you can’t just turn that off. You can hardly blame the vets. The govt spends billions of dollars teaching them the best way to kill their problems, and then barely a penny to reteach them how to survive in a world where violence ISN’T an option. And when violence is the only way you know how to deal with an issue, it’s little wonder that the response to mental problems is suicide…
