State Rep. Debra Howard said the money could be better spent on state-supervised women’s health programs that offer annual exams, disease screenings and family planning services.

And she’s right.

Texans should grab the bucks while that can before giving birth, because once having a child - well, you're on your own.

The nonprofits known as crisis pregnancy centers are typically religiously affiliated and counsel clients against having an abortion as part of their free but limited services.

Religious institutions need to be taxed post-haste. From these types of organizations to the evangelical clowns begging for money for a private jet on Sunday morning TV. They have a regressive influence on society.

Julie von Haefen, a Democratic state representative in North Carolina, which has sent millions in public money to pregnancy centers. “These clinics don’t provide medical care. They act like they do, but they don’t.”

Once the baby is born, see all the empathy from these centers evaporate. And the funding.

"Having a hard time making it in this economy?Should have thought of that before you got knocked up. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps honey."

The centers have also been accused of providing misleading information about abortion and contraception — for example, suggesting that abortion leads to mental health problems or breast cancer

Lying and disinformation, the right wing’s modus operandi.

They lie to the parents till the baby is born and then lie to them on vaccines to make the baby’s life unsafe.

Whether you’re in the womb or out in the world, the right wing’s lies will follow you!!!

Stop this! Why are we supporting religious-based propaganda?

89 million dollars? That's a drop in the bucket compared to what Pro-abortion facilities receive. Believe it or not, there is a downside to abortion for women. There are things that women need to know before they make the extreme decision to end the life of their baby.

Unfortunately, if you go to Planned Parenthood or other abortion facilities, you will ONLY receive counseling to abort. There you will actually be pressured into having an abortion. Their "counseling" might not have to do with an official religion per se, but it does stem from their world view and beliefs just like the other side.

Everyone has a worldview/beliefs that we use to guide our lives.

Why is one set of beliefs OK and the other set of beliefs "taboo"?

Why does the inclusion of God in your worldview/beliefs automatically invalidate it/them?

I think these centers offer a needed service that profit hungry Planned Parenthood refuses to offer so I'm happy to see this trend.

it would certainly be easier to respect the anti-abortion position were this not so blatant.

These so-called 'pro-lifers' get fanatical about their agenda, but they don't seem to care about the born. And the sex education in America is a joke. God forbid if you teach the kiddies about condoms. And rape/sexual assault education? Forget it. The prevailing attitude is that if that happens to you, then keep it dark because they just say, 'Well you asked for it!'. Victim-shaming, 'slutification' - where is the Christianity in that?

Why does the inclusion of God in your worldview/beliefs automatically invalidate it/them?

Because it is based on a minority opinion and not science, logic or sense.

And while the 'God factor' is being mentioned, doesn't one of the Ten Commandments say, 'Love your neighbor as yourself'? Wouldn't that mean teaching teenagers solid education about sex and the responsibilities it may ensue? How about taking care of single mothers who 'made a mistake' or were assaulted/raped? Nobody seems to dare or care about that 'R' word, oh no. Is that 'loving your neighbor'? Again, where is the Christianity in that?

Some people need religion in their lives. That’s fine, nothing wrong with that.

But imposing religion on others or using it as justification for $100 million in taxpayer funding. Hell no.

In 2005, Texas created its own program with $5 million taken from its federal welfare dollars, allowing a variety of nonprofits to apply for grants. It quickly expanded under the Republican-controlled Legislature. This year, Texas lawmakers dedicated a record $100 million to fund the project over the next two years.

Texas...where you get in-depth counseling and education on the perils of an abortion, but can buy as many guns as you want without any training or a background check...

And when your child is born, you get nothing to support yourself or your baby....to include any electricity when the weather gets bad...

Welcome to MAGA-world....

So there is little oversight as lots of cash is funnelled to religious groups who want to limit access to abortion?

Running these places could be a nice little earner for the Taliban. They could use the foreign currency.

Amazing how the "Keep Government out of our lives" people want government to interfere with peoples lives.

These issues are all messed up, this is how it should be done in my opinion:

Women & men should be able to go somewhere where they receive BOTH pros & cons about abortion or giving birth, SAME PLACE, simple!

Then it will play out in one of the following ways:

both agree to abortion, done

Both agree to give birth & support the raising of the child jointly, each paying their fair share

Lastly one parent wants the child, the other doesnt, then the one who wants the child gets SOLE custody & responsibility for raising the child, the other walks away.

I think above is fair & equal, its where our societies SHOULD be at by now!

Church and state in the US need to be separated, Not surprisingly the extreme right Evangelicals whose preachers and leaders talk about their supposed individual 'freedoms' are among the first to want to restrict 'other's' freedoms. Their hypocrisy rivals that of the current Taliban and so many other religious extremists throughout history. But religious extremism is similar across most religions, in most cases extremists in most religions want to make life even more difficult for women, especially women who might question the religion's teachings, which almost always were started by males, who claimed they were obeying some Father figure.
