If it's not tested, it's not detected, so it's not in Beijing. any official who reports a positive case in Beijing, mere weeks out from the Olympics, is going to find their neck on the block, regardless of if omicron is already there or not. so they won't report it, so it's not in Beijing /s

At this rate the whole country will be in lockdown soon

HAHA!

Consequences.

More interesting would be, where all those cases and new clusters stem from. With all those strict measures and border or travel restrictions? Do those same mutations develop independently and anywhere at random? Or are they only quite much similar and already something like pi, rho, sigma, tau? I can’t imagine that there are living so many people from southern Africa or returning global tourists bringing omicron into every corner of China.

ZERO sympathy, remember when it was "over" in China and they had city wide celebrations and festivals -- even in Wuhan -- why we were all under the Covid cosh? Exactly.

and those conceited foreign ministry 'diplomats' on twitter, posting an image of china launching its rocket next to an image mocking india's burning covid pyres. what a disgusting government.

So they are going to do this every time someone gets a cold or the flu? This is not healthy or helping the situation. China and the rest of the world's solutions have become worse than the problem.

After seeing interviews of Chinese claiming that it didn't start in China and that it was just more unfair persecution from the US and the West, I lost quite a bit of sympathy for them. LikeTokyo Star stated above, guranteed it's already in Beijing.

I thought China "cured" Covid....

That was the claim, so the CCP painted itself into this corner.

A lot of blind hatred for China in the comments.

And yet they're the country that has, and is, showing what would have been possible in other countries, if those other countries had had governments willing to sacrifice popularity and corporate profits in the short term for the common good.

Note that, if the US etc had chosen the Covid Zero strategy domestically, they'd have been able to support a widespread vaccination strategy in the countries that couldn't afford the cost of a Covid Zero strategy or a widespread vaccination strategy, and the headlines today would be about how a cluster of cases somewhere in the world was being greeted by a quarantine circle being dropped around it, with an international mission of food aid and medical teams heading in to test, trace, and quarantine everyone within that circle as the effort to put SARS-COV-2 in the same museum as smallpox.

@richard

Don’t blame the victim. This virus came out of China and killed nearly 6 million people worldwide, putting millions into poverty and major economic destruction.

The world is entitled to feel hatred for the country that started it and tried to cover it up. And still has not apologized or taken any accountability.

Never forget.

Only if you believe the CCP propaganda.

3 weeks till the chinese new year. I wonder how chaotic it is gonna be this year. Last year most migrant workers are not allow to go home to visit their family.

Just read a news article weeks ago that even some of the japanese workers send abroad to work in china hasn't come home for 2 years now. Kinda suck that if you leave, you might not able to re-enter again. And tickets prices are off the chart.

China created a monster that they can't control.

The theory that "China created it" or that "China's delay in identifying it..." have as much legitimacy as "The US created it" or that "Trump's closing of the border to China saved..." do.

Which is zero, except for with those who don't care about the facts.

PS, it is telling that the folks screaming about the supposed delay (every year there are spikes of Flu Like Illnesses around the world, with every such spike being potentially the beginning of an epidemic, and the GLOBAL consensus was, AND STILL IS, that until the spike is statistically significant, no public announcement is wanted by anyone) don't make a single peep about the GERMAN delay in announcing that it had been confirmed that people with no symptoms could be spreading the virus.

@Richard,

It was invented and tested in Wuhan lab which is under operated by Chinese Army. Still they are not allowing to enter WHO Officials into the lab. May be they have more surprises in future.
