Sigh... this one again.

I'm a Hispanicist. I speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese. I've lived in Latin America for a year, attending university in Lima and Rio.

And I promise you, "Columbia" is a perfectly acceptable spelling in English. " Colombia" is fine, too....

@ Fadamor

It's Miss Colombia ... not Columbia as in British Columbia or as in District of Columbia.

Mea culpa. I apologize to Colombians everywhere. Two and a half decades of living near the District of Columbia has warped my spelling.

Columbian and Venezuelan women usually rank high in these contests. Nice to see a Filipina win, but then they are also of spapish descent. Must be something in the water.

After watching the video, I feel sorry for both women. Miss Columbia for being cruelly pranked (intentionally or not), and Miss Philippines because... well what can you do? You can't go crazy celebrating because just as quickly as they changed things, they could change things back. Plus there was a section of the crowd audibly booing the change. That's not something that would make the beneficiary of the change feel good.

And yeah, Steve Harvey's days as a contest (ANY contest) emcee are over.

"In 100 or 200 years, there won't be almost any pure Japanese"

Well I would certainly be happy to help her fill these islands with little brown babies!!! :-D

@palsunstar

Thanks for the link.

I can see how the mistake was made. He saw the word '1st' and thought he's looking at the winner. Perhaps next time they should use 3 pieces of paper, each with just one name/country, arranged in the right order.

I don't understand how the mistake could not have been prevented.

Were both the winner and the runner up's names printed/written on the same piece of paper that he's reading from?

I would thought that only the winner's name is there so there's no way such a mistake could be made unless the host is pulling a name out of thin air.

To bestow 1st prize only to take it away again is, even if unintentionally, rather cruel. I have a fairly low opinion of beauty pageants, but it's clear these girls put their hearts and souls into the competition. Even without watching the video, I can tell that this sort of thing is just shattering.

I feel sorry for Miss Colombia. Her facial expression said it all.

Steve Harvey should be the moderator of the next Republican debate.

That WOULD be fun. Then Trump could whip out the "You're fired" line.... which would be a winner!

Steve Harvey should be the moderator of the next Republican debate. The Miss Universe pageant is rigged. Every winner has been from Earth.

She got through to the "last ten" of the ridiculous cattle market. I'm by no means overly- PC, but this kind of stuff is just stupid.

"Does anyone know how Miss Japan did?"

Well done to Miss Japan for using her platform to speak out about important things. More please...

We were watching this announcement live. The moment Steve Harvey started to apologize, we knew right away what's coming up is gonna be a big controversy. The contestants were too stunned to celebrate. Nobody wants to be first runner-up this way, and nobody wants to win this way - the runner-up gets embarrassed, and the winner doesn't get her celebratory moment. Plus the lady who had to transfer the crown and sash was also from Colombia the winner last year, so she has had to take it away from her fellow countrywoman. Heh, Harvey is in some countries' hate list. And Miss USA was 3rd.

This just in: Steve Harvey no longer hosts any contest!

Good thing Trump doesn't still own this. Otherwise, Steve Harvey would be getting the "You're Fired!" treatment.

Looking forward to someone asking Trump about this in an interview this week. No doubt he might have a gem of a comment!

Not my style. At all. Anyone here like the way these women make themselves look?

Fabulous job making into the final ten Ariana Miyamoto. What an achievement.

I hope the Japanese media fills us in on her performance today.

Here footage of the judging blunder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9aRmmWX5XI
