TheQuestion, so Japan should surrender to North Korea?

I'm not even sure how you got that out of my statement. Plus, unless the Japanese govenment has made sweeping changes sense my last meeting there, I was under the impression that the U.S was protecting the country.

Obama opposes missile defense and his administration is proposing cutbacks in the program. So why is he allowing missile defenses to be deployed when it's something he doesn't believe in? What a hypocrite. He should follow his principles and allow NK to fire rockets at will at the US and its allies.

TheQuestion, so Japan should surrender to North Korea? America can take care of themselves. Hawaii should be ok, the closer islands to North Korea is another thing.

They are just sabre rattling to scare off others.

Sabre rattling and MAD only works when both sides are evenly matched what NK is doing is just annoying.

North Korea is just showing off but what they have on the menu is Japanese. It might land somewhere near the Midway islands perhaps even striking or what about Johnson island? It is now uninhabited so it would make a great testing site.

Nope raja, at this point the dear little leader is trying to show the army how tough he is so they listen to his bastard child "Un" after the crown is handed down.

I wonder what would happen if the Ill regime was wiped out? Certainly the army would take over. But would saner reasoning prevail? The Ill seem to be hell bent on triggering a conflict out of sheer incompetence. Might be better to off the lot and see what happens.

North korea has not enough money to invade Hawaii or USA,it only wants to protect its lands.

They are just sabre rattling to scare off others.

Maybe they do want to be the next Japan? Let's the US knock it down and then rebuild it for them. They will be better off and Kim will be seen as the leader that saved NK.

I wish someone would destroy my house, with no casualties of course, then build me a better new house.

Maybe they want to be the new Japan! Yay!

(Hit Pearl Harbor and start something off...)

stirfry: "how hard could it be to send in a bunch of mercs to zip kimmie and his pals ?"

His pals number more than a million, and hence pretty tough. Kim himself and the elite, my guess is also that it would be a lot harder than you think from the ground. And anyway, were it to happen, he's instantly martyred and Seoul is destroyed. There are generals just ITCHING for war, and while they'll lose in the end they'll wreak a havoc the world does NOT want.

timor: You're a bit touchy on this issue. I think they should prep the missile defense, and if it's clear any missile, armed or not, is going to hit or fall NEAR Hawaii they have a chance to test the interceptor systems. Kim is indeed drawing a line in the sand, but it doesn't mean you have to walk across. Just stand on your side of it and patiently mock the guy. Say things like, "Wow... what a purdy li'l line you drew!" and, "Well, guess we DEFINITELY can't send anything to ya now... you drew a line!", etc.

This might represent the literal line in the sand. Any shots taken at Hawaii (an indivisible part of the United States) should be construed as an act of war. North Korea fires off this missile as a demonstration. The question is, however, as a demonstration of what? Just its missle technology, which according to North Korea is not really missle technology but rather the means by which it gets its satelittes into space (lol). On the other hand, this whole missle shot might be a demonstration of resolve on the part of North Korea, them believing that the US might wake up and take notice if the state of Hawaaii were nuked just for fun. Either way, I don't think the US can sit idly by. This missile shot might be without a payload, but how do we know? Do we trust Uncle Kim (while also believing in flying pigs) or does the United States clearly tell North Korea that any missiles fired at Hawaii shall be considered an act of war and the US will react accordingly?

Nice of them to choose 4th July. They are obviously very conscious of showing due respect.

Pity their fireworks tend fizzle out, though. Maybe a cat p1ssed in the gunpowder.

Kim's not firing anything at Hawaii....

But just in case. < :-)
