Ah, the weekly US gun massacre is in. But hey, if she had no access to guns and instead had just a rolling pin she could still have mass-fustigated people!

Another sad day for the US and their pathetic gun laws. It's a shame these people had to learn the hard way. RIP to the victims.

Ah, the weekly US gun massacre is in.

Creepy. Sounds like you couldn't wait.

Can we leave politics out for 5 seconds here? This is a tragedy. Good grief.

My thoughts are with the families (or family?) of the victims

No. This is more than a tragedy; it's insanity.

The ages of the people don't make sense here. Victim is 42 and her parents in their 50's?

If she had a history of mental illness I wonder how she managed to get her hands on a firearm. Could it be that the regulations in place to keep lethal weapons out of the hands of nutters while protecting the god-given rights of law-abiding citizens don't work?

Branded: Petty crime may be higher in the UK, but the murder rate is a lot lower. I guess the question is: would you rather have your car stolen (UK) or be murdered (US)?

TimRussert: "Creepy. Sounds like you couldn't wait."

Wrong you are. I expect it, yes, but I don't wait with bated breath or anything. As long as lax/non-existent gun laws stay as they are in the US, this will happen again, and again, and again. And before you try and put words in my like you usually do, no I don't like it or hope for it at all. I would love nothing more than to be able to see a month pass without a gun massacre here or there in the US. Alas...

GJDallieut: "The ages of the people don't make sense here. Victim is 42 and her parents in their 50's?"

That struck me as funny also (and no, Tim, not 'funny' in the comedic sense).

kokorocloud: "Can we leave politics out for 5 seconds here? This is a tragedy. Good grief."

Given that the tragedy, and the similar weekly tragedies in the US, was caused as a direct result of said politics (pathetic gun laws), I'd say it's entirely relevant.

We have laws governing gun ownership. They are quite specific. And the penalty for breaking those laws can be quite sobering. Try not to be so silly and excitable on this issue. It has no bearing your life. And if you feel so strongly simply avoid the US. No one is forcing you to visit.

Interesting about the guy running in there... So he runs in there, two more shots are fired, and she is killed. Wonder if he will be under suspicion...

Two more shots, and two guns found inside. If both guns were used this all gets pretty complicated.

Enough is enough! NRA shame on you! When are you going to start fighting for child gun rights??? If these children had been armed they could have defended themselves against their mother and saved themselves. Everybody knows that if everybody had guns (yes even children) we'd be living in a safer world. (end sarcasm)

Is there a limit to the amount of gun violence we'll see? Doubt it...

We have laws governing gun ownership.

True, there are gun laws in the U.S. Unfortunately the "enforcement" of those laws are so lax that it's just way too easy for nutters to get a hold of one.

Nutters can get a hold of one regardless of any laws. Thousands of illegal guns coming across the border from Mexico every day.

Lot of good they are doing too! Sorry, was that sarcasm?

No need to worry or whip out your semi-auto or rocket launcher in a panick -- I have no intention of going back to visit the US, ever, because I value the lives of my family and this kind of thing proves that no one is safe while the current laws are the way they are. Don't pretend they are anything more than sub-par, please. It may take six-days for someone to be able to buy the uzi they 'need' as the criminal background check clears, but that is not at all 'sobering'; particularly since kids can still put their hands on fire-arms and shoot themselves in the face at gun-shows, etc.

It is odd, though we may be reading more into it than is necessary.

No kidding, and while gun-nutters proclaim that the illegal aliens are destroying the country, they have no qualms about using their guns to go vigilante and 'defend' the border like the neo-nazi groups are doing.

Woah, I haven't heard that in the while. Brings back the good old days at the eikaiwa teaching the 50-year old Japanese housewives!
