More than 1.2 m refugees flee Ukraine:

Now the number of refugees has crossed 1 million.

If Syria is of any guide where half of its 22 million people left the country during the war, there could be as many as 22.5 million Ukraine refugees in time to come.

Where can they go..?

All of these unfortunate refugees and this needless death because of a Russian war criminal. And to what end?

The worst aspect of all is the fact they all say Putin is an mad war criminal, evil dictator, mass murderer etc. BUT won't go and fight him. In fact, they are letting Ukraine fall to Putin's slaughter. I'm not sure what's more sick, Putin or those who stand by and let Putin carry out this unjustifiable war.

I would be careful with the "Ukrainian" label. Safe bet is that among this wave of refugees there is a lot of migrants heading to Europe that have been bottlenecked in at the Belarus and other borders. The German government already said they will wave any form of passport or other requirement for these "Ukrainians". No surprise.

Agreed. The one thing stopping that is the madman criminal has the worlds largest nuclear arsenal and will not hesitate on using that if he looks like losing. It is hard to justify nuclear Armageddon to your citizens even for the best of reasons. We all want to help Ukraine survive but not at the expense of world destruction, which still includes Ukraine losing.

Better to bribe Russians used to assassinating with novichok nerve agent to take Putin out. One billion dollars to do it would still be much cheaper than rebuilding all of Ukraine. Put out a "mafia" contract is the least violent method of stopping this invasion. Probably easier to live with the immorality of that, than tens of thousands of victims of his war.

Nuclear amargeddon is an excuse not a rationale. It is the same excuse Putin relies on to continue this reckless humanitarian disaster. If opponents of Putin think nuke amargeddon is a 'real' and unresolvable conflict, they'd have gotten rid of it through a mutual agreement long ago.

Why have it if only reckless genocidal maniac can leverage it?

It comes down to a very simple logic. Evil must be defeated where ever, when ever.

To let an unhinged evil and barbaric dictator like Putin brain wash an entire nation, go on to cause a humanitarian catastrophe next door is illogical and self defeating.

It is leveraged by all nations possessing them (nukes) to ensure "their own safety". This is why you do not invade or attack nations with such an arsenal. There is no guarantee a madman will not use them, but if you also have them then they do so knowing you will return the favor. "MAD"

the evidence would say otherwise, at the moment, ONLY Putin is leveraging nukes. Your own argument says despite Putin not using nukes, we shouldn't oppose him.

or put it another way...

Where does it end?

the evidence would say otherwise, at the moment, ONLY Putin is leveraging nukes. Your own argument says despite Putin not using nukes, we shouldn't oppose him.

At the moment only Putin is threatening to use his, from fear others will join the Ukrainians and Russia will be attacked.

Similar to israel telling all the Arab nations that attacking Israel can get you nuked, allowing them to bomb Syria, Hezbollah and Iranian targets without any military response.

Nobody with nukes really needs to say it, but Putin is from fear of conventioanl weapons attacks by non nuclear nations. Putin clearly knows if he uses his WMD against any NATO nation that three NATO countries can and would respond against Russia with their own WMD. But if someone not a NATO member sent soldiers to Ukraine, Like Japan or Australia or Finland then they have no qualms in using tactical nukes against such forces.

Do you think if NATO were to actively join the defense of Ukraine and started bombing Russian military bases and targets that Putin would use nukes or try to win a conventional war. Putin would call the other CSTO members and there is 90% of Europe at war. In a large scale conflict, at what point does one side get desperate enough to use WMD? Does anyone really want to find that out?

People like Putin are more inclined to unleash Nuclear weapons than the West. But if he did the response is guaranteed. Do you not think that is a legitimate concern if the world gangs up and fights Putin pushing him out of a Ukraine he considers his rightful spoils?

Easy to say fight Putin, not so easy to see the path that ends up taking the world down. Hitler with nukes would have used them without question. Tojo with nukes would have used them without a second thought. You think a losing Putin would have the morality, consistence and self control to NOT use his?

If you can beat him without anyone using WMD then by all means fight him and win. If you cant guarantee that, then what are you doing?

Now that Putin has said that the sanctions are akin to a declaration of war, the cliff is getting closer.

Starting a war on Ukraine was a declaration of war.
