I'm not sure about New Zealand but I doubt if many people in Europe or North America have grown complacent about such risks. The media and politicians drumming away and/or exploiting fear, however...

Apparently the writer of this article forgot the hundreds of lone attacks in Europe, Australia, and the USA, except they weren’t done by “White supremacists.”

> The elephant in the room here is the number of attacks (not mentioned) carried out all over Europe!

Except that the article does mention it. Before you go off on your politically blinded diatribe, please read the full story:

Muslim reactionaries in Europe have continued to carry out attacks organized in small cells. But they have increasingly followed right-wing counterparts in acting alone, said Tore Bjorgo, director of the Center for Research on Extremism at the University of Oslo in Norway.

terror attacks by ideologically driven lone actors in the U.S. and Europe.

Another reason for nations to restrict civilian ownership of semi- and fully-automatic weapons, especially large caliber ones. Also large magazines: why would a civilian need a magazine that holds more than a few rounds?

The attacks are pretty much constant, so I only mentioned a couple, and no less serious because they didn't happen in a white country.

That's unfortunately a non-partisan problem. People in first-world nations just don't care as much when it happens in non first-world nations.

Unless you are willing to condemn all such violence, you are part of the problem.

I agree.

So long as there are humans there will be wackos who want to hurt others. Timothy McVeigh didn't need a gun, neither did the Unabomber or the knife wielders in Xinjiang.

So long as there are guns easily available, there will be whackos who will shoot people with them, that would not ever get around to figuring out how to make a bomb and try to quietly get the products to do so without getting found out.

Your argument is entirely faulty. If it was a valid argument, it would be as good an argument for getting rid of guns as for keeping them.

For the past 5years the Australian Government, the Liberal Government, has been trying to exert more control over the people, has been using the scare card to grab more power and have used asylum seekers, immigration and Muslims to justify this grab. John Howard, a previous PM,  back in the eighties spewed anti Asian and the current government is not only anti Asian (anti Chinese) but also anti Middle Eastern. The current Australian Liberal Party has been taken over by the Far Right and their agenda is White Australia and to back the US to the hilt. If the US is anti Middle Eastern, Australia will be anti Middle Eastern, if the US is anti Chinese, Australia will be anti Chinese. Ultimately, the people are responsible for the actions of their Government: they vote them in and close their eyes to their evil deeds. It is time the people started making their Government responsible, it is time they stared to take control over the politicians they pay with their taxes. Slowly we are giving up our freedom and privacy in the name of so-called National Security. We need to wake up to our politicians and realise THEY are becoming our biggest threat, the threat to our democracy which they claim to be protecting.

The frequent attacks by Islamists the world over seemingly dont ar mentioning.

In Sweden they hardly even report them, so "normal" has the situation become.

Australian PM said today that it is time ban a free internet and should be controlled and censored by govts only.

The bad guys always find ways to get guns. In this situation, you're taking the ability for innocent people to defend themselves against said bad guys. Armed civilians fired back during the Christchurch shooting and saved many lives, for example.
