Same things happen when you put more cars on a road. More people die.

In the meantime, files of fighters stream through the mountains this way and that, in order to reposition themselves before the new troops arrive.

Yelnats: Same things happen when you put more cars on a road. More people die.

The difference here is that they are finally going to put our cars on the road instead of bombing the other guy's cars, as well unrelated people's cars, houses and children from the air.

Our casualities are WAY too low in Afghanistan to make me believe we have been doing anything worthwhile along the lines of our nation building goals. It looks to me like the U.S. military think its fighting WWII in Afghanistan and can win with aerial bombings. Meanwhile, the Taliban is back and the Afghans don't like us so much and see us and invaders who bomb the crap out of civilians.

With so much technology available, I see no reason why such a huge contigent is really necessaray.

Well that's gonna boost morale. They should all go home.

Sarcasm? The people will side with the insider who is there rather than the outsider who cares only enough to send heartless gadgets. Its the reason why 8 years since the start, we are still there...and had so many gains reversed.

Because America was unwilling to do what it takes to get the job done, we should have packed up and left a long time ago. Personally, I think this buildup is just farting in the wind. Our opportunity was lost a long time ago.

Admiral Mullen, you should consult with JT's military expert, Sarge. He claims the insurgents will be hiding out for the next 18 months.

Reposition? As in "hiding?"

If you've got the tech you use it. You seem to have some skewed idea of how a war should operate that involves two groups of people meeting in an open field and beating the hell out of each other until one side lets up.

Obama and his crackpot policy in Afghanistan is sure to bring more bloodshed to our military.

The evil doers know we will cut and run after 18 months, because dumbo Obama told them already, what a dork!

Now, we face massive casualties and invetiable attacks on the homeland or our allies because of Obama`s dithering and cut and run policies!

it's a honey-pot sucking terrorists from all over the world -to their deaths.

But the troops will continue, plus they are hoping Iran will get sucked in also.

TheQuestion: If you've got the tech you use it.

Are you suggesting we should drop some A-bombs on Afghan?

I think we should use all the tech that is appropriate, such as infra-red scopes, body armor, microphones and headsets. Hiding behind bolders is also perfectly ok. But when your predator drones kill more civies than combatants, other civies get miffed. And its already an uphill battle because we are outsiders, strangers who don't speak the language or know enough how to respect the culture. Having your mindless tech accidently killing civilians leads to an uphill battle turning into vertical walls with grease on them. We cannot win like that, so we may as well just leave.

Cut and run? So dramatic! Your club had nearly 8 years to finish the job. You failed. So step aside.

Besides, if the bad guys want to relax for 18 months, let them! That gives us that much more time to train the other Afghans to wipe their own butts and have them ready to rock by the time the bad guys have wrapped up their holiday.

"But when your predator drones kill more civies than combatants, other civies get miffed."

its terrible when civies get miffed. rural Afghanistan is sooo crowded.

We're going to be in Afghanistan for years, and the war on terror will go on for decades, no matter which party controls the White House.

Need to be careful that the Americans don't get stuck in their own honey pot.

No, anyway there is no grouping of enemy forces large enough to merit such an attack.

I think we should use all the tech that is appropriate, such as infra-red scopes, body armor, microphones and headsets. Hiding behind bolders is also perfectly ok.

Essentially you want us to use a slightly sharper stick, that works when you have a known enemy in a known location but when your dealing with ambushes and hit and fade attacks they only give a slight edge.

But when your predator drones kill more civies than combatants, other civies get miffed. And its already an uphill battle because we are outsiders, strangers who don't speak the language or know enough how to respect the culture. Predator drones are damn useful and the only people who ever seem to have a problem with them are those that don't have the money or the R&D to produce them. Anyway, soldiers on the ground are just as likely to produce civilian casualties, thus all the court martial cases going on.

When the current admnistration decided that they were going to change the way things were done in Afghanistan I really hoped they would change the mission from stabilization to search and destroy. That's what the military is good at and that is a goal we can do with great efficiency if given the chance.

Do the terrorists still hate Americans for their freedoms???

Sushi - What do you think the answer is to your question?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I just hope the vast majority of the casualties will be Taliban/insurgent/wacko casualties.

Sarge; Great posts buddy. Giving the appeasers something to think about.

Of course casualties will rise our COC is inept unlike Bush, he does not have any military experience.

At least Obama will be a 1 termer before Palin becomes Pres. Tee Hee!

DickMorris: Of course casualties will rise our COC is inept unlike Bush, he does not have any military experience.

Amazing what passes for military experience with you! I am not sure if you are trying to sink the Republican party from the inside, or be a martyr for them that they can place all the blame on. Your posts have hardly any sound reasoning and even your appeals to emotions and slogans are not doing so well.

Its not about numbers. Its about courage and cowardice. Its about being down with the Afghans and fighting alonside them, or hovering above them like we don't really care or have the guts to take the risks. We are nothing more than fair-weather friends like this.

There is no cowardice in bombing an enemy position, no courage in sending men to die scouting hole in the wall encampments, and there is no honor in cleaning up the fragmented remains of suicide bombers that throw themselves at innocents without even the slightest hesitation. We are the only one's confined by the rules of war in this encounter and its my assertion that we should employ every tool and all available means to destroy the terrorist elements in the middle east so terribly that they never rise from the wreckage. Then we can leave, not as the winners but as a force that cleaned a few spots of filth from the world.

Not as much as we progressives do!
