Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said the attack was not being investigated as terrorism, but that she was “not ruling out anything.” The shooter's motive was unknown.

It was planned ahead of time, not something that just happened as temper flared. The guy brought a gas mask and a smoke canister and gun. He puts on the mask, fires the canister and fires the gun. There did not seem to be any particular person he was after. So how is it NOT terrorism?

on guard about a rise in gun violence and the ever-present threat of terrorism

A reality of life in the US is staying on guard because of the threat of gun violence, staying on guard is necessary when so many mentally unstable individuals carry guns with them wherever they go. The threat of terrorism is also of concern to many Americans knowing some of the gun carriers are probably associated with one of the US's groups deemed domestic terrorists. Who knows why this guy went wack and murdered so many people, what seems to be known known is this mentally unstable person carried a loaded gun to a subway station, then used it to murder people around him. The gun industry in the US is too big and politically powerful to have restrictions put on it. And the death tolls will continue to mount because of the industry's power and its ability to sell weapons to just about anyone, and when just about anyone can carry a loaded weapon in a sick country like the US expect the death counts from gun violence to rise. Only weak and wack individuals feel the need to pack a gun with them wherever they go. Can you imagine how many would be dead, if there had been the mythical 'good guy with a gun', on that crowded subway train after a smoke canister had been thrown.

Times like these, I wish I were The Bat Man!

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

More gun control. Eliminate ghost guns.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Well..now its a bit too late to say - "will not allow New Yorkers to be terrorized, even by a single individual"

Even tho there's a rise in gun violence.

It's Brooklyn so its not surprising.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

so how many times have the surveillance cameras "malfunctioned" in recently killings/deaths?

A physical description of who they are looking for or sharing the photo they have would also be useful in finding the individual who did this, no?

6 ( +9 / -3 )

A reality of life in the US is staying on guard because of the threat of gun violence, staying on guard is necessary when so many mentally unstable individuals carry guns with them wherever they go.

Depends on where you live, that’s the other stark reality.

The threat of terrorism is also of concern to many Americans knowing some of the gun carriers are probably associated with one of the US's groups deemed domestic terrorists.

Which group or groups exactly? What are the names, who’s the leader? Wray, Garland and Myorkas have never given specifics about the make up or leadership of these groups. If there is a threat we would get exact specifics and we have not. We just have to take their word without any detailed evidence? Sure.

Who knows why this guy went wack and murdered so many people, what seems to be known known is this mentally unstable person carried a loaded gun to a subway station, then used it to murder people around him. The gun industry in the US is too big and politically powerful to have restrictions put on it.

Ok, don’t even start putting this on guns again, don’t got there, put in on the individual that perpetrated this serious crime. The left are so obsessed with guns and race, they didn’t even want to mention his race until the last minute.

And the death tolls will continue to mount because of the industry's power and its ability to sell weapons to just about anyone, and when just about anyone can carry a loaded weapon in a sick country like the US expect the death counts from gun violence to rise.

No, the death toll will climb as long as you have mentally challenging people that don’t get the health and proper screening they need. What and how should the US make the appropriate changes on how we look and deal with mental illness and second, how did he obtain these weapons, were they legally bought? Did he hang out with other like-minded people what was his background, was he a nationalist, part of a bigger terrorist cell group? A lone gun man, trained in the military? Those are the real questions that should be asked

Only weak and wack individuals feel the need to pack a gun with them wherever they go.

Name calling doesn’t help to belittle these criminals nor does it help the ones that have been injured by these scum.

Can you imagine how many would be dead, if there had been the mythical 'good guy with a gun', on that crowded subway train after a smoke canister had been thrown.

Or saved.

A physical description of who they are looking for or sharing the photo they have would also be useful in finding the individual who did this, no?

Several other new sites have descriptions of the shooter, short stocky black male about 5' 5" tall wearing a green construction vest over a gray sweatshirt. The police also apparently have a credit card belonging to him and thus know who he is. He rented a U-Haul van in Pennsylvania that the NYPD bomb squad is investigating now.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Tragic. Your account (from America?) @DesertTortoise reads like an act of ‘domestic terrorism’ rathe than a random shooting:

-@DesertTortoise 8:32am: [A physical description of who they are looking for or sharing the photo they have would also be useful in finding the individual who did this, no?]

“Several other new sites have descriptions of the shooter, short stocky black male about 5' 5" tall wearing a green construction vest over a gray sweatshirt. The police also apparently have a credit card belonging to him and thus know who he is. He rented a U-Haul van in Pennsylvania that the NYPD bomb squad is investigating now” -

inverse relationship between an inconvenient identity/background of a shooter and how hard guns are blamed by liberals.

always.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

The streets of America are flooded with guns.

Ok, we got it, so any thoughts on the PERPETRATOR?

4 ( +10 / -6 )

so this guy rented the truck in Philadelphia. he also had a 9mm.

A rapper and his "crew" were just arrested in the blue state of Georgia for trafficking illegal guns to....Philadelphia. thought the narrative is that the gun comes from the nearest red state, right?

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Yawn, just another day in the rogue state of the USA.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Another hyperbolic statement and introduction of political figures into the unfolding story of a tragedy ?

@zichi 8:53am: “The streets of America are flooded with guns. Biden said he would something about the millions of ghost guns. Gun homicide is a daily incident.” -

Having lost a family member to a gun tragedy, I can understand passions about the gun issues in America @zichi 8:53am but your frequent, over-dramatizations like “*the streets of America are paved with guns” *does not help making people aware and open to a dialog toward compromises and resolutions.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

So… another Wednesday in America? Maybe if they had ALL had guns and ALL started opening fire at a person with a gun this wouldn’t have happened, right?

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

does not help making people aware and open to a dialog toward compromises and resolutions.

how do you handle the dialog with this:

Definitely need more guns in America. If every single person on the train had been carrying at least one automatic weapon and several magazines containing high velocity bullets, then this tragedy would have been avoided.

If you've lost a family member to a gun tragedy, think you'd be more upset with pro gun over anti gun.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Notice how masks are perfect cover for criminals?

What a mess... better to stay away from New York City.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

So… another Wednesday in America? Maybe if they had ALL had guns and ALL started opening fire at a person with a gun this wouldn’t have happened, right?

And none of the security cameras were operational, how odd is that?

The state of New York (and New York City which has even stricter laws than the state) also have stricter laws than Switzerland just like California funnily enough.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Another hyperbolic statement and introduction of political figures into the unfolding story of a tragedy ?

Agree.

your frequent, over-dramatizations

Agree on this count, as well.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

The perp is black, and this was premeditated and is domestic terrorism. This is a nightmare for JT's resident liberals to try and spin.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

How much I love my peaceful, clean, safe and free of guns Japan..

Times like these, I wish I were The Bat Man!

Michael, no more comics for today !!..

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

True, but I would also note that ATF trace data shows that most guns recovered in the commission of a crime in states like CA are traced back to California, not Arizona or elsewhere: https://www.atf.gov/file/137061/download

stop trying to control my comments and just make your own.

Not control, just guide you on the thread at hand, we know the stance you take on the gun issue, but it would be great to know a different angle like how was he able to get a bag like that down there, who is this guy and where was he from? Why didn’t Adams increase police presence and end No cash bail? Why wouldn’t this guy do more to bring down crime, the man just got elected to office and he seems to be a nicer version of DeBlasio.

There is a major problem with ghost guns.

Now imagine, if the left were to try and end the 2nd amendment, the rise of ghost guns would jump off 3-D printers like you wouldn’t believe.

Lack of gun laws while in Georgia the governor just made it easier to carry guns.

For Atlanta, it’s a disaster, and he’s making it worse. More reason to leave that crime ridden city.

Other than that, any input on this perpetrator?

2 ( +8 / -6 )

Post as you like @zichi 9:37 and others here have the equal right to question any of it.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

We are upset @sunfunbun 9:34am and you don’t know my family’s anguish to question it. So, perhaps you shouldn’t conflate it with other deplorable commentary in attempt to use it for what may be your political agendas. It’s can be as offensive as someone else here this weekend equating the Georgia murders of 3 family members to a ‘golf outing’ and referring to it a ‘hole-in-one’.

*- @sunfunbun 9:34am: “If you've lost a family member to a gun tragedy, think you'd be more upset with pro gun over anti gun” - “how do you handle the dialog with this: . . .[comments not worth reprinting]”*

snowymountainhell and zichi, please do not address each other any further today on this thread. Thank you.

This topic is mainly about mental illness and gun control today in America.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Your right *@bass4funk ***“guiding” and questioning as part of any open discourse. And the audacity they pretend not* to know what ‘putting someone on blast*’ on the internet is. See the result?

terrorism is back in NY.

what country will be attacked as next?

just wondering...

2 ( +6 / -4 )

This topic is mainly about mental illness and gun control today in America.

Based on what we know so far it’s actually about a black nationalist supporter doing domestic terrorism.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

@zichi

No comment on

"Definitely need more guns in America. If every single person on the train had been carrying at least one automatic weapon and several magazines containing high-velocity bullets, then this tragedy would have been avoided."

I think the utter ridiculous premise of this "opinion" shows my true intent.

It's scary however that some Americans truly believe this would be a positive step forward.

And then at the other end of the barmy scale we have wholly unqualified mods who don't like it when people express differing opinions.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

The suspect is black but the majority of mass shooters are white guys.

That is not the issue, the issue is that the media in large part tried to not mention this guys race and that was flat out wrong in that sense they made it racial when it didn’t need to have been racial.

snowymountainhell targets my posts on a daily basis. I do not need to be guided by him/her or anyone else, I can voice my opinions.

I understand, we all feel like that, but I personally want to know what your thoughts are on this guy, I already know how you feel about guns and the second amendment, but what’s your personal insight to this guys heinous actions?

How can I say anything about a person I know zero about just like you too.

Well, there’s a lot that we do know and are learning and we Still can talk about or comment on the situation, that is with this thread is about and has the information keeps continues to pour on in we are learning and we will probably know a lot more within the next 48 hours.

For one thing I found a credit card as well as a handgun a few smoke devices and a hatchet, it seems creepy, but it seems like this guy was getting ready to do some thing far far worse

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Your typical day in the land of the free, nothing to see here.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Who cares about his race? Issue is the toxic nature of political discourse and the slow degradation of US society

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

They need automated machine guns like in Goldeneye the n64 game.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

That is not the issue, the issue is that the media in large part tried to not mention this guys race and that was flat out wrong in that sense they made it racial when it didn’t need to have been racial.

How convenient in this case. Everyone could of course point to others instances where it has been otherwise.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

And I already informed you that I know t nothing, zero about the suspect or why they did it, if he did. I don't want to just invent something. Like I said once caught we might learn his motives.

Keep that position for every accused please.

You might know my many thoughts on guns but you can't speak for everyone reading this post now or later.

Most people do, everyone uses Google these days.

You didn't find anything?

Yeah, he’s a sick and twisted individual.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Well, maybe the race doesn’t indeed play a role there anymore. They’ve already altogether become irreversible crazy, violent and fentanylized. And their internal gang or individual wars over there surely can’t be easily handled or ended by boycotts, sanctions or Swift exclusion.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

How convenient in this case.

All cases

Everyone could of course point to others instances where it has been otherwise.

True, very true as well

2 ( +6 / -4 )

You have posted numerous times, and quite recently, "Everyone is innocent until proven guilty".

Yes, nothing has changed

People use Google to search for my thought and opinions.

Don’t even go there, you know I was referring to firearms

.You don't even know who the shooter is.

Never said it did.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

bass4funkToday  12:09 pm JST

Yeah, he’s a sick and twisted individual.

Yes there are sick and twisted individuals. That's obvious. Why do you then allow sick and twisted individuals to legally buy guns. Then they'll say..it came from the black market illegally but most illegal guns on the black market originally came from legal purchases.

The answer is pure selfishness. I want to retain my right to buy guns which means everybody else has the same right including sick and twisted individuals which results in high levels of crime and never-ending incidents like this which I supposedly hate but have to live with because I want the right to buy 'my' guns. A perfect example of a circular, illogical premise

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Who cares about his race? Issue is the toxic nature of political discourse and the slow degradation of US society

The media cares. They were quick to leave Sacramento after the deadliest mass murder in the city's history and hearing about the suspects' description. It was only a block away from the State's capital with many upon many politicians running the World's 5th largest economy.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Do you finally state you don't know who the mass shooter

Why would I know? I’m just wondering on your thoughts of this suspect nothing more.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Lucky that the shooter was a poor shot and no one died

Who wasn’t a poor shot, oh, he did shoot people that’s why so many were injured, he was just lucky he’s gone jammed because had it not then he could’ve killed people Without a doubt

4 ( +6 / -2 )

American is great. I am happy to be not in a land of free.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Seems it would have been a mutual waste of our time @sunfunbun 9:34am. -Appears someone was just making sport to demonstrate their point on the issue. Still, it did little to further any cause other than upset and mock survivors.

*[does not help making people aware and open to a dialog toward compromises and resolutions.] *

*@sunfunbun 9:34am: **“…think you'd be more upset with pro gun over anti gun.”*

1 ( +4 / -3 )

No alarm.. It is routine.. Such despicable slaughtering..

Americans are already immune to such crime..

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I thought New York has strict gun control laws?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

They do actually when you look at the crime books in the gun laws, the problem is it just not being enforced and the second thing the cops are not allowed to go all out to curb crime, so there you go disaster just brewing he said unfold right in front of your eyes

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Gun nutters believe it’s not guns

It’s not entirely, because in the right hands it is an indescribable tool and can save lives in the hand of criminals, it can be a tool for destruction and death. Nothing nutty about it, just a reality.

which are the problem. Just other nutters with guns.

And and the good guys that want to stop it or not allowed to, so you can look at it from that perspective as well

How to restrict guns to all nutters

Now we get into the conversation about mental health, which is a very important thing that the left refuses to engage

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Many big cities in the US getting way more dangerous. Sad.

Another baseless and ungrounded, partisan fabrication.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

what type of mental health examination is required before purchasing a gun

How about from the level when they are in school or on the job and it is determined to have a mental problem or what happens if someone is in the home into diagnosed that’s one way to start and we could do it

and what is the reexamination period, one year. five years?

Depends

1 ( +4 / -3 )

There is no form of testing before allowing to purchase a gun.

Depends which state.

Ghost guns are another big problem. You can't drive a car on your o

All the more reasons why gun owners don’t trust liberals when it comes to our second amendment, absolutely an out right do not trust them, so we don’t wanna information in a database and if the liberals think that they can take the guns away, you will see a Boom in 3-D Ghost Gun printing for sure

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

One of the reasons why I decided to make Japan my home was its sane gun laws. After the fatal shooting of high school exchange student Yoshihiro Hattori in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1992 I studied the issue throughly and published articles on it in the pre-internet era. (Sorry, folks, no links.) One of the key events occurred in 1958, when the Japanese Diet basically rubber-stamped the law that had existed during the postwar occupation. The bill was passed by acclamation with no dissenting votes.

A police official made the remark that Japan not only has gun control, but bullet control. Legal owners of hunting guns must show their empty casings in order to purchase new ammunition. The tight control on ammunition also prevents gangsters from improving through practice with their handguns, which is why incidents of "happo-jiken" (discharging a weapon at someone or something) far outnumber "satsujin jiken" (homicides).

Japanese have become culturally averse to guns. Few policemen in Japan have the experience of discharging their sidearm in the line of duty over their entire career. And even at Japan's most secure prisons for serious offenders, the guards are not armed with rifles.

In some countries at least the laws do work. Clearly Americans have given up trying.
