The number of murders in the United States rose by around 30 percent in 2020 over the previous year,

That is a average. As Mr. Noidal points, out, the leading crime cities are those that are run by democrats and defunded their police.

If you took figures from only those, the murder number would be even higher, conversely if you removed them from the statistic the average figure would be much lower.

That is why one always have to take statistics with a grain of salt.

A far-right media bubble that feeds hate, violence and extremism.....

No, they’re basically saying if the US government cannot and will not protect you and does not have the law-enforcement to provide you with the safety that you need, do you need to take it upon yourself to keep yourself and your family safe

A group of Americans that are only happy when they're outraged....

No, A great majority of people are very unhappy with the direction of this country in this government

MAGA Ken's and Karen's that confront peaceful protesters with guns...

What?

Far-right domestic terrorists that plan to capture and murder the Michigan Governor...

And By defunding the police and taking away law enforcement, how many people do you expect are going to die? They never tell us and that’s on the Democrats

Violent MAGA insurrectionists that threaten to hang the Vice President....

Kathy Griffin was holding a decapitated head of the president, the left seemed to be OK with that, why. By the way, neither side was right, but it astounds me how short your memory is when liberals do or say violent things, no word. Conservative says something, you’re on it.

2022 can’t come soon enough, Just three seats shy of taking over the house

Seems it’s always Americans

Some, We are not a monolithic group

that like to assure us other Americans are a bunch of crazy, lawless, murderous thugs - not including the law abiding ‘good guys’, of course.

Stop reading into all those tabloid newspapers

bass: quite a diatribe.

Hmmm…hardly

If law enforcement is so lax, if the criminals are protected by laws that leave them free to carry out their criminal acts unhindered, how come the US has a way higher proportion of its population incarcerated than any other country on the face of the earth.

Well, no…basically we have enough laws and enough stringent gun laws, but none of them are enforced especially in the blue list of states, the same goes with incarcerating repeat criminals or early release, so there are laws on the books, a lot of them and a lot of the crime would not be as high as it is if many of these governors and mayors wouldn’t force the existing laws, that’s just the sad truth. And because they don’t enforce these laws and because they are now Defending a lot of the police, you are seeing a rise in crime and you are seeing gun sales by private law abiding a citizen to go up, because if he can’t have police to protect you, then you have to take matters into your own hands and protect yourself, it’s just that simple and the second amendment allows me to do that.

It's actually violent crime, especially murder, that is increasing. Other crime is either constant or decreasing.

And it's increasing in both urban and rural areas.

Work that into your narratives.

Not in the way that it is in the bluest of states in the largest cities, take your pick

Number of murders rose 30% in U.S. in 2020 - FBI:

Hardly any surprise in a gun-trigger-happy narcistic nation.

Expect more in 2021, no thanks to the ravaging wild pandemic..

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

30% its a deception.

The crime rate skyrocketed last year in the USA.

Probably more realistically crime rate raised at least 45%

Or more.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Gee, you mean defunding the police leads to more crime?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Isn't it obvious?

One person gave many thousands the "hate speech" and tacit approval to look at other humans as less than human over policy.

In 2020, I didn't feel any more endangered than any year since around 1981-83 when I assumed the world was going to be destroyed in a nuclear war. I was living about 2 miles from a very important military HQ which would be in the top 10 places to be nuked. Early one morning, I saw a satellite in the sky, north of my location (which seemed odd) and thought - that could be an ICBM.

I've never seen a gun kill anyone without a human involved. I've never seen a knife, car, bomb kill anyone without a human involved either. Firearms are tools with multiple purposes. Not all are bad. The stats can be used to allow certain firearms and be smart about restricting others to the unlicensed general population. I need a license to operate a motor vehicle, but no license is required to shoot or own a firearm. That seems wrong.

Saying "get rid of all guns" isn't a viable answer. It is literally IMPOSSIBLE. But lots of Americans are shifting towards restricting firearms that are most used in murders and other crimes. That would be a start that could happen. I don't see any way for the 2nd Amendment to be modified in my lifetime. It can be interpreted in a more restrictive manner, perhaps in 10 yrs after a few SCOTUS members retire and get replaced by anti-firearm Justices.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

All of which have pretty strict gun control. Correlation is not necessarily causation.

So….guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

So…gotta do something about the people?

Seems it’s always Americans that like to assure us other Americans are a bunch of crazy, lawless, murderous thugs - not including the law abiding ‘good guys’, of course.

SuperLib, you are right. Obviously 2020 will be something of an outlier in terms of statistics for the obvious reason of the pandemic. Economic decline, unemployment, anomie, increasing drug abuse, lower productivity, increased mental stress, all are going to force crime upwards. 2021 may be the same...

But the general long term trends are not debatable. Gun crime is committed mainly with handguns in cities.

RiskyMosaic

Thanks for the shout-out and you are correct. The NRA didn't used to be like this (I omitted that part because it was becoming overly long anyway...).

There was a time as you noted, that the NRA was on the side of police and was true to its stated mission of supporting hunters and sportsmen. Not any more....

When you wage a war against the police, limited the police from doing their jobs, firing police for doing their jobs, limit the rules of engagement, give criminal more rights, have prosecutors that demand less jail sentence requirements, lower penalty rates, abolishing the death penalty, releasing hardened career criminals, releasing illegal border crossers, illegals that commit crimes unwilling to incarcerate or prosecuting them, not allowing ICE to do their jobs, DHS not enforcing the laws and our borders, stopping the CBP from processing criminals, the Democrats have completely turned our law enforcement on its head and allowed and continue to allow this lawlessness to continue, it’s no wonder moral is low and the people that are sworn to protect us find that it’s not worth the hassle, lawsuits and turmoil to serve the public. Cops and other law enforcement agents are retiring and quitting their jobs at an alarming rate and the criminals know this so it’s not a surprise that crime is rising and will continue to rise as long as the left continue to demonize the very people that are sworn to uphold the law and protect the nation and expect more people to take the law into their own hands.

A 30% jump in the murder rate doesn’t exactly make you want to chant, “USA, USA, USA!”

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It’s a lovely place to visit, bring your favorite Side Arm.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Takeda, the reason is that you could remove all the rifles and shotguns in America and still not put a dent in the murder rate. The problem is handguns, in cities, used by young men, often from poor/minority backgrounds. Billy Bob from rural Texas who owns an AR-15 is not the problem.

If you don't frequent poor, drug infested neighborhoods in urban areas, then the US is quite safe. You need to target your legal efforts on the actual problem, not try to smother it with empty platitudes.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It's funny how Mac-A-Ninny tweeted this with a graph on Twitter, blaming the spike in crimes on Biden. When people pointed out Biden wasn't inaugurated as POTUS until 2021, that tweet quietly disappeared.

Basket of lying deplorables.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

So calling for "gun control" is idiocy.

Ah yes, the rest of the developed world is run idiots who impose gun control. America is run by very smart people, that's why we don't have gun control. High gun violence is in no way connected to the widespread availability of guns. Nope, that's just a coincidence. ;)

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Good news for the gun manufacturers.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Uh yeah, sister, I was aware. My point was that "guns" in general aren't the problem. Rifles and shotguns, for example, are used in far fewer homicides than handguns. Fewer even than knives or clubs. So calling for "gun control" is idiocy. There is no reason to try and control something that is not that dangerous.

But you knew that. You are just trying to be clever and obfuscate the problem.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

The majority of the homicides are committed by young black men, against other young black men.

Ah, and why do you think that is?

Generally in cities run by Democratic administrations. Worst of all, ironically, is Washington DC, which is 80% African American and 90% Democratic.

This is a bit like claiming blacks are inherently more violent than whites, because of crimes in Africa committed by blacks.

With exception of maybe one or two cities, the all of the top 25 or cities in the US are led by Democratic mayors.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

"Guns" are not the problem. Handguns carried in cities are.

Did you know that handguns are a kind of gun? makes u think

6 ( +10 / -4 )

The rate is one statistic, but it is more important to drill down to the details. The majority of the homicides are committed by young black men, against other young black men. Generally in cities run by Democratic administrations. Worst of all, ironically, is Washington DC, which is 80% African American and 90% Democratic.

"Guns" are not the problem. Handguns carried in cities are. There is a huge urban/rural split in crime in the US.

No, it was sincere @RickyMosaic 8:59am and I wasn’t disputing Your useful information. (“Apologies” if you let slighted but no malice was intended. Perhaps many here have grown accustomed to the daily lack of cordiality within these threads?)

*- “Thanks.” for your efforts @RickyMoSaic 8:32am but the onus is still on the authors and editors to provide the specific World Bank link where the gleaned only certain information to compile this story & specific headline. *- “It's impossible to get exact figures, but the US' murder rate is about average for the world, and about 6th in the OECD. As stated before, the onus is on the writers, their sources and their intentions. Why should you have to provided an external source if the writer’s haven’t done their jobs in the first place? Readers shouldn’t have verify the author’s information or explain it for them, don’t you think? Supplemental reading should be a choice, not a required UNLESS the media source could never be trusted in the first place?

Looking forward to your replies.

yeah defund the police really worked out well didnt it?

No, Google is your friend *@Kentarogaijin 8:43am ***YET, you still don’t provide specific* links to the sources of your “facts”. (Plus, You still owe stats on Sunday’s “Crime*” topic but continue to fail to follow through) “Avoiding the truth” doesn’t help your continued propaganda drive against the West, don’t you think?:

*- Sep. 27  9:52pm: “Good then, @Kentarogaijin Sep. 26 8:59am Show us Your specific statistics: Japan compared to the other G20 countries.” Responding to [@Kentarogaijin Sep. 26 8:59am: “Less feelings and more facts..”’*

That would be pretty stupid

So your opinion changes depending on what article you read? Sure a long ways from your abolish, defund, all cops are racist days way back in 2020.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

But, but, but the NRA said a good guy with a gun..... my cold dead hands..... all that kind of thing.

Law and order president and all those assurances?

Open carry without a permit, smh As an American of a certain age who grew up in a gun-loving state, I can assure you that I wasn’t always like this.

There was a time before widely available assault weapons or 30 round magazines.

There was a time when suburban whites did not feel the need to go the full Rambo to get milk or order a latte.

There was a time when nobody in their right mind would have given Kyle Rittenhouse access to an AR and let him out the door

So what happened? Actually crime rates are down from that era (late 70s - early 80s), so it’s not that the streets got more dangerous.

Basically 2 things happened: for starters, the NRA, which in spite of its name is not a gun owners association but rather the lobbying arm of a small group of gun manufacturers (who coincidentally were losing money and at risk of going out of business at the time) discovered that assault weapons were cheap to produce and VERY profitable.

Secondly, the GOP in an effort to dominate the white vote convinced an entire generation of suburban whites that the non-whites were coming for their women (Willie Horton anyone?) and that the only way to hold these predators at bay was by owning bigger, more powerful guns.

And here we are; the odd nut-job with a grudge and an AR with 10 30-round mags, or perhaps just a “Freedumb” lover feeling the need to “exercise” his (in spite of gun Barbie from Colorado, it’s almost always a man. One wonders what they are compensating for) 2nd Amendment rights by carrying an AR and full body armor as happened in MO.

Or maybe it’s just the abusive drunk (or his abused spouse) who snaps.

All of these triggers have one thing in common; a nation awash in guns but especially high capacity semi automatic rifles and handguns (which again, didn’t used to be the case).

And as I always disclose when posting on this topic, I am a life-long gun owner in the states as was almost every male member of my family. We all found current laws allowing any yahoo or buy an assault rifle or strap on a cannon to go to the store insane

No. What we really need to do is defund the police like yesterday.

That would be pretty stupid.

The last paragraph seems to focus comparisons on North America, South America and parts of Europe.

Does Mexico “lead” with 35, followed by Brazil with 27 per 100,000?

Russia looks with 8 ahead of the U.S. at 6 per 100,000.

Does France & Germany seem safer with only 1.

Where do Japan and China rank?

What of the U.K., Australia, Canada & New Zealand.

Are we safe there?

“According to World Bank figures, there were 6.5 murders per 100,000 inhabitants in the United States in 2018, compared with 35 in Mexico, 27 in Brazil, eight in Russia and one per 100,000 in France and Germany.” -

Law 'n' order or "American carnage"? His record speaks for itself.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Thanks for the updated statistics, AFP. -

Q: How many of these homicides are ‘within the family’ or the same “household”?

Q: How does Japan compare with those, specific statistics?

Q: Are there even such published statistics for Japan?

Intra-family violence in Japan seems to be consistently trending in the news here recently.
