All the Murakami freaks will take this personally. Good for you Bob!

This is a Nobel award that makes sense! I lost confidence in the process when President Obama was awarded the Nobel Price prior to doing anything (that is just after election) however Dylan has rocked/folked/ranted for decades on injustices, things of importance to all of us, and of course random musings we all have tried to decipher......

He is deserving...

Good on Bob!!!! (Robert Zimmerman, Bob Dylan....however you would like to address the master)

You don't need a nobel prize to know which way the wind blows.

A kid from Hibbing, Minnesota -- a rusted out iron town in the middle of nowhere -- without a "great" singing voice, armed with nothing more than a guitar and harmonica. And words that made our world stop and listen.

Very well done, Nobel Committee.

Dylan singing "I'll stand over your grave till I'm sure that your dead" about warmongers seals it for me.

Love Minus Zero/No Limit is one of the most beautiful things ever written.

Good enough for me.

A refreshing change. Does that mean I can now say I'm a well-read person?

Too many great songs to have a favorite. But from the literature, culture and musical tradition angle, A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall is up there.

Bob's recorded output is admirable--thus the Nobel--but maybe not always easy to enjoy. Partly depends on the backing band. I think a song like Blowing in the Wind sounded better after 25 years of practice and Tom Petty's band rocking out behind Bob on their 1986 joint tour.

Interestingly, one of his best LPs Blood on the Tracks was one of the few he recorded back in his home state Minnesota. Too bad he didn't do all his albums there!

There are sometimes arguments about who gets a Nobel prize - there should be none about this one. Bob Dylan richly deserves this award; he is an American original.

Can I start a topic of our favorite Dylan lines in commemoration of this well deserved honor?

Mine is.

The pump don't work cause the vandal stole the handle.

I'm so glad Murakami didn't get it.

..a simple twist of fate

I was expecting the usual obscure sth american, african or whatever politically correct choice - or even worse, murukami.

It's good a musician got the award, but this reinforces a silly pattern with the Nobels recently in that they are just handing out awards arbitrarily for past achievements, even decades ago. The whole point of the Nobel Prizes is to recognise achievements in the past 12 months, not the past 100 years.. This is why all the recipients recently have been so old

Really? Einstein received his for work he had done 15 years or so earlier. (This year's Physics prize winners similarly.)
