How fitting that “Elon” and “idiot” are illiterive.

lol Not when it comes to the authoritarian regimes he loves to suck up to.

Musk says X posts of Australia bishop stabbing don't promote violence

I would argue that this is not his call to make, but that of the regulators.

The government tried to justify the ban on the premise that the video condoned violence, which it clearly does not, and /dev/random I think it is a call that anyone has the right to make. You'd have to be seriously reaching to suggest Musk wants people to go and stab a priest or condones that sort of heinous act. Even for the Musk haters, I don't think they'd try and stretch that one.

What they are trying to do here is shut down the conversation about home-grown terrorism in Australia, which could become an affront to Islam hence goes against Labors diversity and inclusion goals for the nation. They are quite happy to showcase their fears and concerns about far-right loonies being a threat to national security, but for some reason want to shut down this version of the threat. Aussies aren't mugs though, nor particularly fond of double standards, hence you have the ongoing back-and-forth debates.

It would be better if the shut-it-down crew were just honest and forthright about their intentions and stated that the issue is they don't want to offend our Muslim population. We've pretty much all seen the video now too, so it: 's getting a bit silly at this point.

I think Elon confuses free speech with politics. When in China he's not so 'free' is he?

Unfortunately, Elon is just another cog in the machine that gives power to the elites and powerful whilst the downtrodden are left to fend for themselves.

Carl Jung said "the price for freedom is responsibility", seems Elon thinks it's all one way, if you have the means.

X removed it for Australians, but Australia wants it removed for the rest of the world. Australia laws don't cover the rest of the world.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Such scenes invariably end up on extremist sites as examples of good things to do.

Too late now, though.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

lol Not when it comes to the authoritarian regimes he loves to suck up to.

Totally.

When is Musk going to rail against the Chinese Communist Party and their complete suppression of all free speech, refusal to allow most social media, protest or criticism of the government?

I'll be waiting...

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Poster here are failing to see the issue. Musk isn't standing up to Australia and not China, both countries, Australia and China, ask for content to be removed for the safety of their citizens, and it is removed in their geo region. But only Australia wants it removed for the entire world, unlike China.

What if this Jack of all trades is defending freedom of speech not to lose subscribers? Do I still have to listen to his arguments? It's all about profits of his company, not about ethics, human rights, social issues, etc.

@Onlooker

It's all about profits of his company, not about ethics, human rights, social issues, etc.

Correct.

@Ricky Kaminski13

it: 's getting a bit silly at this point.

Yes it is, because we keep having to read your brain-dead posts.

Suggestion to J-Today: This is a story that has had it's time. The morons were out-debated yesterday & the day before. Isn't there something more newsworthy going on somewhere?

Absolutely untrue.

Very true.

I post on X every single day and unlike other public forum sites can say whatever I want, especially as a conservative when Dorsey was still running things, Twitter was horrible, everything was policed, and got blocks, and bans, it was horrible, that is not the case now.

Musk can run the company the way he wants, if people don't like it they can leave and free speech doesn't mean you have to take crap from people that are trying to put you down, ridicule or silence you, the man is allowed to be selective in the people he wants to let speak on his platform and who can't. Democracy doesn't mean you can do anything you want without restraints or consequences.

Yep.

The types who refer to Musk as ‘Elon’ try to hold him up as a free speech champion.

What they usually mean is he is more tolerant of the speech they like.

I wish they’d just say that.

I wish they’d be more honest about it but I invariably find zero honesty in them.

X removed it for Australians, but Australia wants it removed for the rest of the world. Australia laws don't cover the rest of the world.

Exactly. It would be like X removing all bikini pictures because they could be considered illegal in Saudi Arabia.

You would have to be pretty naive if you think the internet has national borders. It doesn't. Australia's laws say that it has to be removed from the internet.

Saudi Arabia have no such laws.

Saudi Arabia have no such laws.

Yes they do.

”Pornography is illegal in Saudi Arabia, and "pornography" can cover a surprising range of items. Even glossy magazines with scantily clad women will be classed under this category. “

https://soapboxie.com/world-politics/Expat-Living-and-Working-in-Saudi-Arabia-Rules-Regulations-Laws

Australia's laws say that it has to be removed from the internet.

X isn’t an Australian company so it has no jurisdiction over what X allows or doesn’t allow on its site outside of Australia.

They have no such laws that ban bikini pictures on X.

Yes, they do. As I said before, the internet has no boundaries.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

They have no such laws that ban bikini pictures on X.

You’re completely wrong. They have laws banning it on any device, those same devices which can access X.

”Having porn on your phone, tablet or computer could land you in seriously hot water if you touched down in Saudi Arabia. Even illustrations of scantily dressed people, especially women, is banned.

Customs officials can and will scan your phone for any pictures they deem to be inappropriate and then confiscate your equipment.”

https://www.express.co.uk/travel/articles/615330/Rules-laws-Saudi-Arabia-life-death-prison/amp

Yes, they do. As I said before

I know you said it before, and you’re wrong now just as you were before. Australian law doesn’t apply to American companies outside of Australian territory.

@2020hindsights:

So if any foreign government doesn't like any content it can remove it from the internet? Anything? You see the problem?

Most posters are not.

The types who refer to Musk as ‘Elon’ try to hold him up as a free speech champion.

He most definitely is.

What they usually mean is he is more tolerant of the speech they like.

Which is also the speech the left wants to block and is very intolerant of.

I wish they’d just say that.

I wish the left would have said the same thing years ago and not hide behind words like conspiracy or disinformation.

I wish they’d be more honest about it but I invariably find zero honesty in them.

Liberals, that is their overall mantra.
