Oh, what a giveaway. The JOC is now planning to dump millions of mussels into Tokyo Bay at Odaiba to take the e.coli out of the water. You couldn't make it up!

The idea of deploying mussels across the oceans to absorb ubiquitous microplastics is just a dream for now, but for other pollutants, the bivalves are already at work.

Why is it just a pipe dream? This is an urgently needed solution to the ever growing problem of microplastics. All nations need to get their fingers out of their bums and start taking plastics in the oceans seriously although, it may already be too late.

Mussels, everything to everyone?

Having cleaned up Tokyo Bay they’ll probably end up in the food chain somehow.

Some people can eat plate loads of them, but I am not convinced.

I suspect the Mussel will be too toxic to be consumed afterwards.
