What kind of news is that? Revolts and riots are not carried out by old women, so who should they arrest?

And of course they can not "seize" all young men in the country, clearly they are acting on a list.

Keep it up and the protesters are going to stop protesting and start fighting.

Militarism has always been a cancer on societies. When, one day, the tyrants and minions of the Myanmar junta meet their bloody end we shouldn't shed a single tear.

Before they raid a certain area, they turn off the power and disable all communications, then they seize their targets. Guess who taught them this 21st century M.O. and gave them the equipment to do it?

It is no secret that Burma is a CCP client. Only difference is that Western leftist politicians feel free to criticize the Burma regime a bit, while saying nothing about the CCP policy. But that does not bother Xi or the Burma junta.

CCP has had flights going in and out since the beginning of this latest strife in Myanmar , give you one guess who is behind the curtain.

The Myanmar military or Tatmadaw, hates the Chinese with a passion. The Chinese fund and provide operating bases inside China for Myanmar rebel groups fighting for independence from Myanmar. The Chinese have done this for decades. In 2009 the Myanmar Air Force even flew airstrikes on rebel camps inside China. The Chinese didn't see it coming, did nothing to defend their airspace and as a result said little about it afterwards. The Chinese are sourcing much of their rare earth metals from areas controlled by rebel groups seeking independence from Myanmar. They also have many business ventures in Myanmar cities that are the result of Mynamars opening up. In fact the Tatmadaw says one of the reasons they booted the elected government was it had become too close to China. At least that is what Tatmadaw is saying publicly.

Circa 1991 my employer of the time aske me to go work on an oil development project in Myanmar. We were providing support for Unocal's oil fields there. At the time it was a well known fact that the Tatmadaw was using slave labor to build the pipelines and do other work for Unocal. With that history it does not surprise me to see the same Tatmadaw doing this today.

China, which holds this month's UNSC President's chair, and has a UNSC veto vote, has a UN Ambassador named Zhang Jun. He had a press conference on Monday.

Zhang, who described Myanmar as “a friendly neighbor,” strongly backed diplomatic efforts by . . . ASEAN and by U.N. special envoy for Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener, and expressed hope they would produce results. He said “China is not in favor of imposing sanctions.”

“We should really be creating a more favorable environment for bringing the country back to normal and finding a political solution through dialogues among the relevant political parties within the constitutional and legal framework,” he said.

Who the citizens or the military junta? 750 protestors and others killed including young children. The military junta actually lost the election. They are not the legal government.

Good article. Nice attribution. Multiple NGO quotes. Didn't cast any of the armed combatants as saints in camouflage uniform (the best that their most ardent supporters could say about the lot of them is, at least they are not as bad as the military). Tried to get something resembling a reasonable response from the juanta (virtually impossible, but it shows attempts to balance). A little radio mystery theatre-esque at the beginning (flashlight shines, shot rang out, a woman screamed in terror - that sort of thing), but in today's diminished attention-span world, it was probably necessary). Keep up the good work.

This just in: The NUG announced that they have formed a "people's defense force," a precursor to a "Federal Union Army," in hopes to unify all of the 20 armed factions together into one org, to "stop the use of violence against people." Reportedly the KNPP and an unnamed Eastern border faction has already put the idea into the dumpster.

Just last September militia crud loyal to Trump acted as his Blackshirts, abducting citizens and bystanders (some were white) into unmarked cars, detaining them w/o access to legal help and releasing them uncharged. It's what happening in Myanmar again, this only shows that the government there is illegit.

The totalitarian regime has been waging internal ethnic wars for devades. And it's been plucking off pedestrians in the cities lately wthout provocation. They are waging war on the publis and it's time for the people there to RESIST this illegal oppressive regime.
