To lose one foreign ambassador is unfortunate, to lose two is careless, to lose four is down right suspicious! (with apologies to Oscar Wild).

Well, we know 100% that it wasn't Covid related, because China doesn't have any Covid thanks to their Zero policy. It wouldn't dare.

It isn't like China would ever lie to anyone, certainly not Chinese citizens or anyone outside China. They've never done that. Not once.

4 people dead, from the same country. 4 people. If they weren't all in the same vehicle accident or fire, it is beyond suspicious. I thought Myanmar was friendly with China. China wouldn't be testing new anti-personnel weapons on diplomats. I can't imagine that, even for the CCP.

Health care in China has always been third world quality. Add a pandemic to the poor quality health care and that makes it a dangerous place to visit for anyone.

The news seem quite suspicious, but taking into account the huge number of diplomats, their ages and the pandemic it is not as difficult to happen as it would seem just by reading the headline.

Probably just bad luck/coincidence, but that so many people are open to the suspicion of foul play says a lot about how China is now perceived.

Even diplomats are not safe in China.

Oh dear...

To put things in perspective:

No single country in your list has been careless enough to lose 4 envoys in a year, I believe that this is without precedence. However, I also believe it unlikely that this situation in China is anything other than coincidental though I can understand why certain people jump to conclusions, this is tailor-made for the conspiracy theorists.

A very strange coincidence indeed.

Wonder how it feels to be told you are ambassador #5.

You mean they tell them beforehand? I hope at least the condemned man’s last feed is a decent one.

One in each season. Look at the consistency

Apparently, such a position I would not want.

It's a Guinness World Record! Coincidence or did they displease the Chinese? Who know Dealings probably involved lavish entertaining of all types and that may have played a role if the ambassadors were older (heart attack - probably in some hotel). Wonder how it feels to be told you are ambassador #5. Good luck.

Great opportunity to judge/gauge the commentators here, whether they are commenting with or without bias/clouded lens, etc etc, etc. Just read their comments here.

When was the last time four ambassadors from four nations died within a year while posted to a single country? Ever? It has now. This shows anything concerned with China is suspicious. Especially the deaths of high ranking foreigners.

It possibly is simple coincidence. Or perhaps one or two were "assisted" in passing before their time. We will never know.

Jumping to conclusions is what the media is all about these days, folks just love conspiracy theories!

2 ( +11 / -9 )

Exactly.

Jumping to conclusions without further background information is the sign of a biased observer.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

What a peculiar coincidence. If that is what it is.

These deaths are more than a little suspicious. You'd be crazy to accept any type of diplomatic position in China. Unless you are from Russia or North Korea.

RIP.
