It looks like Jang Song-Thaek is wrestling for military control. In NK, if you've got the military, you've got everything. Young Kim doesn't have the connections, but his uncle does, and the screwy uncle is doing triage on the inner circle. The Great Pudgy One is just a distraction until the sicko North Korean apparatus works out its power struggles.
