N Korea says will boycott six-party nuclear talks

So, what now?

Well, gosh darn and gee whiz. We were always sure that No. Korea would abide by U.N. resolutions. Now all the "dear leader" has to do is throw a temper tantrum and the world will soften is's stance.

Sigh... as I predicted, the childish regime of NKorea would react violently to the pressings by other nations, some equally as childish, for harsher rhetoric and bigger threats.

It'll be back to the six-nation talks soon enough, rest assured. The question is how long it'll take for the nations to backtrack and 'compromise' with NKorea.

And the cycle continues... downward.

Like it made any difference for them (NK) to show up in the first place...

Frankly, all this has done is thrown egg on the face of the US and others intent on placating China's "non" stance or their retarded cousin...

It would be nice to think that China is at least a "little" embarrassed over arm twisting the US to soften their response by using T-Bonds as leverage so that NK would play ball with them but I highly doubt it as they seem quite smug these days... It does seem obvious that even the Chinese leadership has underestimated the mental retardation at the helm of the NK ship...

All that's left now is public ridicule and chocking the very lifeblood out of every last one of Dear Leader's followers until somebody over there comes to their senses and euthanizes him for the good of his own people and the stability of the region...

Everybody - for the most part - seems to be getting along not too bad these days in and around Asia ( excluding civil strife ) except for that "fly in the ointment" called North Korea.... Perhaps in a few years they will be calling it "Parking Lot B"

The only 'good' that might come out of what's happening is that China might decide to placate the other nations slightly, thanks to US concessions, and give NK a little chiding. They might not, either, and no one can do squat, but we'll see.

I feel sorry for their people. What a waste.

NK gives most desired "home-work" to Japan and J-Media businesses.

It's clear that after watching policy changes from Bush Sr. to Clinton to Bush Jr. to Obama, nothing's changed. The North Koreans will most likely continue to seek nuclear weapons, something they've always done. We've watched them play the "two steps forward, one step back game" long enough to know how this story is going to end.

I guess one solution is all countries (but China maybe not) send no food, no energy, no money, nothing to NKorea until they all are starved to death. Half of NK soldiers are still starving. They seem to be too hungry to fight.

I hope you guys don't think you're the only ones who haven't thought of this. Sorry to say, but it won't happen, and for good reason; NKorea would proclaim it an act of war, as they do with everything else, and there's a very good possibility they would simply try to take what they wouldn't get otherwise. I know, I know... some will come on here and tell you China 'would never allow NKorea to go to war, and if they did they would be blown away' and more bombastic language of the like, but they could still, in the throws of collapse, decide to take out Seoul or more. Whether or not it would happen isn't relevant -- what IS is that it's a possibility, and one that the other countries have to weigh when making such decisions.

Yes and no. They of course led the way for said laughter, but in part the international community did it itself. Well, in the case of the US kow-towing to China, but Japan and SKorea managed to make themselves look bad by jumping IMMEDIATELY into calls for full-scale sanctions and the like when pretty much anyone could guess China/Russia's move and what it would lead to -- nothing. NKorea stoked the fires by launching the rocket, the other countries themselves poured on the gasoline.

Sadly, NKorea has a lot of hand now.

That pretty much sums it up. It's such a freakishly unique situation with North Korea where the country exists to please one man. Other countries have something to lose, or at least a standard of living that they want to protect for their citizens (large number of people). But North Korea literally exists to serve one man only.

Maybe the world should isolate them and go after any country that tries to acquire weapons or technology from NK. Japan, the US, and Korea could stop sending food aid. China is forced to take care of North Korea to a much greater extent since they share a common border that isn't militarized like South Korea. Any massive crisis will result in North Koreans crossing into China.

If North Korea sees it as an act of war then so be it. From the looks of it there won't be a day when they don't consider aid refusal as an act of war so we either give it to them in perpetuity while they develop nukes or we stop now. I'd rather stop now before they get nukes. North Korea is a bigger threat now than 10 years ago and with more aid and support they will be an even bigger threat in the future. We should stop feeding the menace since the menace has shown they refuse to be anything other than a menace...

Looks like Aso's public relations exercise of exaggerating N.Korea's satellite launch has backfired somewhat. True his party now shot up to 22% approval rating, but now we have a furious neighbour, lead by a nutter, vowing to "re-nuke".

I don't think Korea and Japan made themselves look bad. What did you expect their response to be? A congratulatory message praising North Korea's successful launch? Their governments have a duty to serve their people. Surely you don't expect them to give a muted response and say, "Well, China and Russia will veto our position so we may as well just keep quiet." Naturally they're going to say what they feel needs to be said and they have every right to make their position clear. Telling them that they're just making the situation worse by getting angry with North Korea's outlandish behavior is a bit daft.

Agree with ya SuperLib. The only choice is stop feeding because it appears more aid=bigger threat. According to the SK official, the recent launch cost an estimated $300-$500 million which is equivalent to feeding rice to the entire NK population for one year. You think this launch would even take place without the fuel/food aid already given in accordance with the six party agreed framework?

Please. It made China/Russia look bad by continually "supporting" this corrupt regime. And it made U.S. look the worst by kow-towing to China.

One big problem with NK investing all their money in weapons is that sooner or later they are going to have to use them. You can't afford to keep that kind of military operation going forever. NK is bankrupt, if China stops feeding the peasants then there will be famine and NK will have to use it's military to try to secure food or a better negotiating position.

The only possible solution to this is for China to forcably remove the leadership of NK and occupy the place until the population is ready for reunification with the south. Anything else leave the nut case in power with too many weapons and not enough sense.

What else is new from NK? Same old same old.

Okay, i for one am sick of North Korea. This is similar to the way the world tried to handle Hitler before we went to war with him. I say, lets just go ahead and nip this one in the butt before it becomes too much of a problem. If you really want NK to piss their pants while having China take a little more initiative when dealing with NK, Let Japan and South Korea get a hold of some nukes. Problem solved, or at the least, we will arrive at a stalemate.

Every and any act is deemed an act of war by NK, so go ahead and cut any and all aid to NK.
