I suspect that the professor is right that NK had them set up to be captured as a bargaining tool. The other possibility is that the dear little pipsqueak wants a wife for his appointed successor. Either way the Ill regime is vile. But that has been proven endlessly...

Now would be a very good time to ask our "friends" in China to help convince NKorea to release thedse two Americans immediately or we will pull a mad media push about Tianamen Square. We could probably get them home pretty quickly.

Just the facts: "the truth will set you free"

Saberi is a bad example because she actually stole top secret documents and lied about it (still is) -and then bad-mouths the country that let her off the hook. =Journalists need to learn that there are rules that societies abide by and you should be at least truthful. =Many journalists are heavily biased in order to sell their product.

The two will rot in NK jails, until one day it is convenient for the NK leader (this one or his son) to let them free as a token of his benevolence (probably after getting some more concessions).

None of the current spouting by our media and the US government makes any difference.

That is diplomacy that everyone can appreciate.

Some fine Russian caviar, jumbo shrimp and scallops. ="The Kim Jong platter" with some nice wines. =Lisa Ling and Al Gote better smart-up real quick and start spending the cash.

What they did was just stupid. Sneaking into NK? I'm sorry, I know they just wanted to get the story, but it was simply stupid to do that. I feel sorry for them, but they brought it upon themselves. 10 years seems excessive and harsh. I do hope they show some leniency and get released sooner rather then later.

WilliB: "None of the current spouting by our media and the US government makes any difference." 2 socialists should understand each other. they'll be free after a few negotiations.

I don't know that there is positive evidence that they were ever actually in NK before they were "caught" but they were not there long enough to do any harm, that's for sure. It's just a set up. Heck, the NK spooks used to come all the way to Japan to kidnap people. Popping across the border to China would be no big deal.

They were STUPID for whatever the reason (Story or not) going so dangerously close to a unstable country known to kidnap foreigners (especially ones they consider their enemies). Why play so dangerously close to fire. You play with fire, you get burned. I'm sick and tired of these reporters and missionaries going into hostile countries and getting killed or kidnapped. Common sense people! Is your stupid story or religion really worth risking your life and putting your family through grief if you get killed or captured?!?!?!
